Re: vertical shaft engine
Basically ......NO!!!
Unless you are some kinda mechanical genius Use a 90 degree drive but, most of those units are for low speed (RPM) applications........Still......NO! |

Re: vertical shaft engine
I say YES!!!!!
this guy has a nice set up, I was thinking of this acouple years ago. A transaxle, engine and live axle set up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skN9XjUF0PI&NR=1 here is a reply the guy wrote if you didnt read it. "it is a solid rear axle, two chains off the transaxle drive it. this allows for speed adjustment at output as well as pulley adjustment at input. the transaxle was open differential, the live axle locks that in, as well as gets me the proper width. thnx for looking." here is some more diff vids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XumY...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cntvi...eature=related |

Re: vertical shaft engine
That is cool, Carolina. But I stick to what I said......" ...not unless you are some kind of a mechanical genius..." If there was an easy & cost effective way to do this then we would all be doing it as the costs on these vertical engines is so much less, and the availability, well, they are everywhere

Re: vertical shaft engine
I wasnt callin you out scotty, I just feel as if there's a will there's a way. The guys in the racing lawnmowers business use vertical shaft motors and a peerless trans. I believe if some people started doing this then it would give the sport a whole nother look at engine conversions. Then you gotta say to yourself the weight issue of a mower to a golfcart. The bobcat zero turns with the 7ga deck is prob the equivilant to a cart and they run 18 and up engines.
But to answer the real question that I over looked is.... I wouldnt try to turn a vert engine horizontle. I've seen it done on the older victa mower and lawnboy mower 2 stoke motors, But never a 4 cyc engine. You would have to modify the oil inlet and drain spots to turn upright aswell as the carb. |
