Starter/Gen on 16hp vanguard
Anyone tried putting a starter gen from a stock engine on a 16hp v-twin?
It winged around the worn out 8.5hp suzuki in my hyundai great, but this 16 horse has a lot of compression. I rebuilt it 10 years ago and it's just been setting around looking for a home since then. .010 over but otherwise stock. I can't find if the st480's used a bigger starter/generator or not. |

If it has the stock cam, you shouldn't have a problem.

Cool thanks, does anyone have any pictures of where the starter/gen is mounted? I set mine in my hyundai tonight and the engine will almost bolt right in, but I have to have a starter generator and room is very tight with just the engine.

Why don't you use the Briggs starter? Does the motor have a charging coil?

Re: Starter/Gen on 16hp vanguard
Part number for the starter/generator on a stock ST 480 with briggs v-twin is 27065-G01
Hope that helps. I can get you a pic this afternoon. It sits where the starter would go. The two holes in the block that face the front of the cart that hold the starter in are the holes they use on the flywheel side of the motor. On the other side of the motor they use the threaded holes on the back cover to mount the brackets. |

It has comp release, you are spinning two much smaller cylinders so it should work fine. Many others have used them....used stock gen out of regular carts. Seems like my clone with a cut head would turn over harder and its not an issue providing the comp release is working.
