Default Running C/C rearend in reverse for forward

Just wanting to know if anyone has had any experience running a 90's club car DS rear end in Reverse as forward direction? I am doing a custom sled motor install and most likely going to run a jack shaft due to clearance issues. Just want to know what all my options are before I mount the engine. One option would be to use Reverse gear as FORWARD direction. Just curious if it would hold up and if the ratio is the same? Any help would be appreciated.

Been doing a lot of big block reading lately, certain year kits for the V-twins require you to run reverse as forward. It is recommended to move to 8:1 gears if you do this, so I have read.

Hi Tom

I did this and forward was slow & the reverse was FAST - I didn't care for it much.

Hey Scotty,
I don't think you read my post. A mid 90s transaxle would NOT need to be run in reverse. So no gear ratio issue.
Also on a 97 and newer transaxle that WOULD have to be run in reverse the 8:1 high speed gears works great. We have done hundreds. Some guys try to go to far and install the 6:1 ratio gears and the results are not ideal. 6:1 ratio gears should only be used if crazy top end is the only important thing to you as they do have undisireable side effects.

Also with a sled motor swap HS gears propably would not be needed. The motor is capable of 9000 rpm but produces much less torque then a 4 stroke. Even more obvious at low rpm.

BBM, I guess I am lost in the conversation. Are you saying that pre 97' trans axles would not matter if it is run reverse input for forward direction because gear ratio is the same? I have a 91, and that is my question.

I hope I'm right on this. 1997 and newer cart runs a clock-wise engine. So If you put a counter clock-wise turning engine in these carts your forward and reverse will be swapped. A 1996 and older club car carts run a counter clock-wise engine, so if you put a bigblock or clone engine in everything will be the same on your rearend.

I think you are correct. My issue is I'm using a sled engine and I want to know if it will cause any problems to turn the rear end in reverse for forward direction.

He's suggesting you swap rear ends to one that spins the way you want when "Forward" is selected.

I rigged up a relay that reverses polarity to the ignition trigger on my sled engine swap cart that runs it backwards for reverse. You could do it permanently and just run it in reverse depending on cooling system.
