Default Vanguard 16hp in Yamaha G2

Hey fellas I finally got the engine!

First off I would like to thank Mike for all his help and information through pm.

So the journey shall begin.

It seems that it already has a fuel pumo so I can bypass the yamaha stock pump. Or do you think the yami pump would be better?

uploadfromtaptalk1386541730424.jpg

Any ideas as to what this is? There are two black wires that clip into two yellow wires, and one red wire that is detached.

There are two blwck wires that are unattached. Maybe for the charging system?

uploadfromtaptalk1386541986340.jpg

Starter selinoid. Red to battery positive left side to ground? The connector behind the red wire should be the kill switch?

uploadfromtaptalk1386542076593.jpg

Oil sensor? Should be ok unhooked?

Now ill start removing all the stock g2 engine compnents.

Any ideas as to what this is? There are two black wires that clip into two yellow wires, and one red wire that is detached. That is the rectifier/regulator. The two black wires come from the alternator ring and plug into the connector with the two yellow wires(already plugged in). The loose red wire is the output. Fuse it at 20amps going to battery+. The other 2 wires likely go to the fuel shutoff solenoid at the bottom of the carb.

Starter selinoid. Red to battery positive left side to ground? The connector behind the red wire should be the kill switch?Battery positive to the left terminal. Right terminal to the starter. Battery ground goes to the engine case. There is a small connector on the solenoid. That comes from the keyswitch for starting.

Oil sensor? Should be ok unhooked? I removed the oil sensor and blocked off the oil filter.

Now ill start removing all the stock g2 engine compnents.
Good Luck with the build.

I was thinking the two black wires are from the coils and the red wire is for the fuel shut off. I agree the red wire from the regulator is for power output! Have fun with the project.

Thanks fellas! Tearing the engine out was a piece of cake! Lol

uploadfromtaptalk1386548340996.jpg

All 4 of the rubber bushings were busted so the only thing holding it in place was that cable in the front left corner and the belt!

uploadfromtaptalk1386548733141.jpg

I was able to remove the outer half of the clutch

No idea how to get this part off. It seems as if its a part of the shaft......

You'll need a clutch puller for that.
At this rate, you'll have the Briggs installed by morning!

These clutches are pressed onto the tapered shaft of the crank. You will need a Yamaha clutch puller bolt that will slide inside the end of that shaft and push against the crank to pop the sheave off. Those puller bolts run about $40 online

1989Marathon,
Thank you for the information,.

the small connector on the solenoid for the key start, does that require a 12v + or -.... i'm assuming + but i'd like to be sure..

*where would i wire in the kill switch?

the two black wires that are for the carb shutoff solenoid.. leave them alone?

you said you eliminated your oil filter... is that necessary or will it not fit with the filter the way it is?

Now i need to get the clutch and shaft figured out..

i'm thinking that i'd rather spend the $40 or maybe a little bit more.. and take the two engines to a machine shop and have them remove the clutch and reinstall it on the new engine...

i'm a bit hesitant that i'll break the clutch trying to get it off... and i'm even more hesitant about cutting & tapping the shaft...... but if they ask for an outrageous price then i'll just suck it up & do it myself...

Just got off the phone with the machine shop.. quite an interesting conversation.
Me: Hi, i have two small engines and I would like to have the clutch removed from one of the engines and the shaft cut and tapped to receive the clutch on the other engine.
Them: Sorry, we dont do that, you will have to take it to a machine shop... WTF?!

yeah... fate has spoken, stop being lazy, buy some more tools and do it myself!

:D

So the clutch remover is over priced but i did some researching and
This is the cheapest I've found on ebay...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snowmobile-C...-/161040895122

also the engine mounts are over priced, at $28 a piece... yikes!

do you guys think that these bushings would work??

You might wanna research that clutch tool a bit more. Just because it fits a Yamaha snowmobile clutch, that doesnt mean it'll fit a Yamaha golf cart clutch.
