If you don't put a spring on the choke, it will close when you rev the motor.

Yeah, its closing when i rev the engine up!
should i do a spring or just leave it blocked in the full open position?

Great video. You'll probably want a choke cable going to the choke arm. Put a spring in the extra hole in the arm. Here's how I did mine when I had the stock carb.

does it need to close at higher rpm?
why cant i just block it in the full open position?
and please excuse my ignorance, this really is my first time actually working on an engine, so its all new to me...

You'll want a cable going to it so you can start the engine when it is cold. The choke should never close once the engine is started.

I don't have a choke on mine ,it has started with no problems summer & winter for 2 years.20 degrees to 100hookm

Did this fix your problem? I am fighting the same bogging issue on my 18hp vanguard and cant seem to get it right. curious to see what you figure out on yours.
Do you or can someone tell us approx. where the mixture screw should be set?
