Default Vanguard 16hp Carburetor Problem

Hey Fellas,
since i'm waiting on my parts for the install to arrive I decided to power up the engine and see how it runs with the fuel line into a gas tank.

Well, she turns over perfect, but will not run.
If i pour gas or starting fluid she'll fire up and roar but only for a few seconds.

Ive taken the carb and intake a apart and they were filthy.. obviously the guy who sold it to me had lied about it only having 10hours.. BULL.. anyhow, took pretty much everything that can be unscrewed off and cleaned thoroughly with carb cleaner, poked a needle through every hole.

The bowl fills up with gas, but from what i'm gathering the gas is not making it into the actual headers....

i'm at a loss... everything is clean now... all the gunk is out, fuel pump works fine, fuel is getting into the carb, the bowl has fuel.. but somewhere something is not allowing the fuel into the headers..

any suggestions??

This fitting is left unhooked maybe that has something to do with it. If so, can anyone tell me what its function is and what it connects to... i assumed its for an overflow line...

And there is no solenoid to the carb, if i continue to spray starting fluid the engine will run.... just not off the gas in the carb...

Did you energize the fuel shutoff solenoid at the bottom of the fuel bowl?

Edit... It looks like it has been removed and a plug installed. I would remove the plug and make sure it is just a plug.

Can you point out/circle what plug you are referring to...

The fuel shutoff solenoid is optional. If you take the plug(and washer) out, you should be able to remove the main jet. It is probably blocked. All fuel goes through this jet, even the low speed circuit.

So I have no #8 solenoid
But instead i have the #5,6,7
#6&7 are on the outside of the carb
#5 i removed as well and cleaned it with carb cleaner but nothing would pass through. Is there supposed to be a hole?
also #3 i pulled out at cleaned as well..

still no flow....

Yes, #5 is the main jet. It should have a hole in it. No hole means no fuel. It should have a slot for a screwdriver. At the center of the slot should be a hole all the way through it. Post a pic if you can.

If the main jet is plugged, check the holes in the emulsion tube. They need to be open. #2 in the pic.

If i recall correctly I pulled #5 out but there was no hole...
i'll pull it out again tomorrow.

The emulsion tube is clean as new.. cleaned with compressor & a blow tip & also with carburetor cleaner...

What does #1 connect to?
