Is 40hp too much??
I have a Yamaha G2 that is lifted with 28" tires, I've been looking for a 16hp to 20hp motor to upgrade the failing stocker. My Dad, who designs and builds experimental airplanes, has a 40hp motor sitting on a shelf all sad and lonely. We've considered putting it in the cart but I feel it's too much power for the basically stock cart. If I let him twist my arm what items other then a drive clutch and brake upgrade will I need? Will the rearend hold up? Will the stock front suspension work or do I need an ATV or other higher speed front end? The cart runs out at 28mph now and I don't need any more speed but more torque would be nice. I'm not sure what RPM the motor is built for, can I add a spacer to the driven clutch that would limit how far it opens and limit the top speed if needed? 38hp is definitely overkill for what I need and I don't want a free motor to cost me more in the long run then buying a more properly sized motor. Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, that's too big. You should probably just sell it to me. Don't worry, I won't put it in my g9.

Re: Is 40hp too much??
I've got and had a few G2's. Right now I'm putting a Polaris engine in my personal one. I did once put a 80hp 2 stroke in a G2 and with 24" tires we didn't break anything. Go for it and post pics and vids.

Go for it!
Remember, there's no such thing as too much horsepower, just components that are too weak to hold up to it. You should be fine on a cart though, cart transaxles are tough. |

Re: Is 40hp too much??
On the other hand is the argument for smaller motor. While 40 hp would be unique, and exhilarating, it may not be what you need for your cart.
You have to consider how you want to use your cart and what your performance goals are to select the motor that's best for you. Just because something is available doesn't mean it's the best option. I have 25 hp in one of my carts. It's it's all I need for off-road but, it is overkill for riding around the neighborhood and it sucks down a fair amount of fuel. I'm just saying |

Scotty you shut your dirty lil mouth lol. Put the 40 in and if its too much dont floor it. Throttle control wins.
