Default Team: Rapid Response Roller Clutch Opinions

I have an opportunity to buy a Team Industries Rapid Response roller clutch, just like the one CPP sells, and would like some opinions....

My cart is a G1 with the Vegas Carts GX440 2nd Gen engine. Currently, I'm using a 94c "style" clutch that was made for the Yamaha G1, got that one from CPP as well. So it has pucks and a spring just like a Comet Duster 94c. My issue is that I can't get the belt to "idle" or spin freely at low rpm without loosening the belt drastically, leaving lots of slack in the belt. The stock G1 clutch I have actually has a roller bearing on the center shaft so the belt can be tightened (no slack) and the clutch will just spin, without moving the belt at idle.

My questions are:

1. Will this Team Industries roller clutch allow the belt to be "somewhat" tight, without a lot of slack, and allow the belt to "not engage" at idle?

2. Compared to the 94c Duster, how good is this clutch?

3. Being an 8" clutch, how much top end will I gain compared to the 7.25" clutch I have now?

50 inches over 41 inches per revolution is about
25 percent faster belt speed.

Ok so, say my top speed is 30 mph at 5000 rpm, what would my new speed be? Would that be 25% increase? So 37.5 mph?

Sheesh.....can't seem to get a direct answer. I have done all the calculations with that spreadsheet, I understand the math. What I can't seem to understand is how you get a % from it.

Doomsman said "25%" more belt speed. My question was, is that a direct % increase in mph? Where does belt speed come into it in those calculations?

Oh well....guess I'll just buy the darn thing and I'll report back.

slo im doin the same thing it's really about 20-25 % more speed about 35-38 mph depends on rpm's....and tire size too...

Because when you get into clutch gearing, its all about the diameter the belt is running on. Each clutch changes that as the belt moves up/down. At any given place its just like a chain on sprockets of same diameter, which gives a ratio between the two shafts. If the primary is larger diameter than the secondary (where the belt is running) then it will overdrive the trans to more rpm than the engine is doing. Many/most cvt can do this stock to start with. You can take a diameter and convert it to distance to figure it out. You know if you have a 50/25 tooth sprocket setup it will double the speed, remember the teeth are a distance measure you don't have with belts but same thing. Is figured like tire diameter, the circumference is what tells you how far the tire travels on the ground. What is the difference in circumference of a 7.25 and 8" pulley diameter, of course it also could affect your secondary if you change your primary, but that can be adjusted.

8" = 25.2
7.25=22.765

Ok, what do I do about a starter/gen/alt pulley on this 8" clutch? I know VC has a 7" one, but anyone ever done one of these roller clutches?

Most of the aftermarket non cart ones you have to add your own pulley for the gen. I was told by cpp tractor supply has one that works. Either you put it on your shaft behind clutch or mount the pulley to the back of clutch. Unless you can put a pulley on the recoil side of the new engine. May have to modify a pulley depending.

I just bought one of these clutches and ordered the pulley from VC. Waiting on the pulley to show up now. I picked the clutch up for $100 still in the box, couldn't pass that up. As soon as I get the pulley I will post what I find out when I test mine.
