longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
Hi everyone, I have a honda v-twin in a 99 ezgo. I recently added a clutch from ccp marked "team rapid response". I can't seem to get enough slack in the belt. It measures 46 3/4 inches in circumference and 1 3/16 in width. I think I need one about 1 to 1 1/2 inches longer. Does anyone know if such a belt exists and where I can get one. Thanks

Re: longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
If the distance between the 2 shafts didn't change, why do you need a new belt?

Re: longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
Because the clutch is bigger? I'm guessing, I don't have the old clutch here to check, but the belt (same one as before) rides higher on the drive pulley and drags on the driven clutch. The clutch is the correct clutch for a 1 3/16 inch belt. I bought it from Tom at CCP so I'm pretty sure it's the correct clutch.

Re: longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
The belt should always "drag" on the driven pulley. The belt is captive inside the secondary sheaves. If the new clutch is grabbing the same belt, with the same shaft center distance, the belt is not the problem.

Yes I understand that, what I'm trying to say is that I can't enough slack in the belt to allow the driven clutch to spin freely without turning the driven clutch. The cart has never been able to shift while idling which is the reason I bought the new clutch. Perhaps the belt was never the correct one.

I believe slonomo had to get a very long belt for his setup. I think he got it from a John Deere dealer. Send him a PM.

Re: longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
Does the clutch have a roller on the shaft that lets the belt sit still? The clutch should open enough at idle to be larger than the belt, but if your alignment is off the belt can rub anyway. Sometimes golf cart trans don't want to shift anyway, they are not made to shift with ANY rotation on the secondary. I can shift mine with the stock yamaha clutch (that has no spring) but with a very slow idle and only if I do it somewhat quickly. Since I still use the gen to start I rarely bother to do it.

Re: longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
1989marathon thought I could help on this one. I had the same problem, except I went from a 40" belt to a 59" belt. One of the other members actually found it for me on the Dayco website. I'll see if I can find the link on my thread and I'll post it here.
As far as the idling issue....yeah that's a problem. I still haven't figured out mine. If I didn't have neutral in my trans, the cart would just keep on going....even at idle. The belt never really "slips". I can adjust it so that it has more slack in it, and this allows the belt to slip....but then I get problems with jerky engagement, and I also loose about 10 mph top speed because the belt never gets to the bottom of the secondary clutch. Sho is right about the clutches with a roller on the center shaft. The stock G1 "older style" clutch has a center roller. I have yet to try that. But some performance clutches do, almost all ATV clutches have the roller. I don't know if one of those will work for you or not. |

Re: longer drive belt for Honda ezgo
I found the thread. It was "rifter" who found my belt for me. Said he located it on Dayco's website.
Here is the site. You can look up the belt by circumference and by width, then it gives you the part number. Pretty cool! http://www.daycoproducts.com/online-...1?part_type=50 And here is the thread about my belt: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/big-b...lt-needed.html |
