Default Scored an 18HP Vanny need some input.

Hi I bought an 18 hp vanguard on craigslist. Only draw back is I need to find a crank shaft due to the motor was used to drive a hydraulic pump off of the flywheel. Funny thing about that is I asked the person selling it what size shaft it had he said 1'' he failed to mention it was about a 1/4 long
So what I am looking for are some suggestions on what to do with it.
I plan on looking for a used stock crank and if I can not locate one I will bye a new briggs crank at $260.00
I want to change the cam. Maybe cpp VANCAM3 is this the 23 hp cam?
Port the heads. Do you remove the restrictor out of the exhaust?
I am undecided on the longer rod and then mill the piston to a flat top. Or do I just use the thinner head gasket.
Rev kit for shure.

Parts I have.
I have a 2bbl intake but no other parts will need isolator and 90 deg adaptor and carb.
I have a cpp roller clutch already.
And I have already removed governor
Motor is a model #356447 type 0079-G1 code 09070211
So give me your thoughts.

Sounds like you have a really good plan.
Remove the steel sleeves from the exhaust ports.
What is the end goal? Alot of low-end torque, or high-end speed?

I'm looking to have a fun cart that can still be used in a camp ground plus mess with my buddy's at the race track with it. And some trail riding.
I also plan on making my own header with 1'' primaries to a 1.38 then up to 1.5 inch and was looking at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-18411/overview/ for the muffler to keep the noise level at bay.

You will definitely be able to do that with that motor. It is very easy to modify. As wild as mine is with a supercharger, I can still drive it very easy like a stock golf cart motor.

Yes Mr Marathon I have followed your build you do some nice work. I will be happy with what you had before the charger came into play. I also plan on installing an o2 bung in the exhaust for the LM-1 to dial in the carb with.

I have read some of your post I was going to hit up some local lawn equipment shops and look for the two barrel with the black emulsion tubes in it and just rebuild it. Hell it would be nice to use a holley two barrel I have a few of them laying around.

If you can make it fit, you wouldn't need the 90° adapter.
The 2-barrel Nikki carbs are easy to find. $40 max.
