Default equus tach

Do you have to use the inductive pickup or can you use the kill switch tab on the cyl 1 coil?

Usually if they are inductive, they need to pick up the pulse thru the wire or sparkplug.Unless they specify otherwise.

On a Coil-Ignition,the Negative side of the coil is the trigger, usually from the points. Its' a pulse-type signal, since the points open and close as the engine rotates(distributor,or other trigger mechanism). The kill-switch tab is a ground-lug to short the magneto to cut-off spark, thus killing the engine.Magnetos make spark whenever they are turned/triggered,and grounding is how they stop current-flow.Hope this helps.

it shouldn't ground it out should it ? I think the green wire is just a signal wire for the tach.

Try it and see,the worst that could happen is the coil won't fire. The green wire is the signal, but if that terminal is a kill,it likel;y won't give a signal that the tach can read.Try it and let me know.

The worst that could happen is that it smokes a $90 tach.

Just try it Zilla and let me know if it works. I don't want to waste $90 if I can help it.
