What RPMs can i expect with 8:1 gears

Hello. I have an EZGO TXT with 23 inch tires. I am going to be putting in Tom's 23 Vanguard with all the upgrades. I would like to put 8:1 gears in. Will i be able to turn up to 5500 rpms? Thanks for the help.

Tom @ CPP would be the best to awnser that, but I'd think, depending on the primary and seconday clucth set up's, when you reach 5.5k you'll be doing 50+mph

Thanks guys. The reason I ask, I read another post where someone put a 23 vanguard in and 8:1 gears, but they said they could only get around 4300 RPMs. I did not know if they had the pro cam or the rev kit installed. All though I don't plan to run around at 50 mph, I want to be able to use the rev kit if I want.

That was my post. 4300 rpms/37 mph. Club Car, Tom's 23 with cam and rev kit, 8:1 gears, 22" tires.

8:1 gears should make it harder to get there I would think. The reason for a higher gear set is to lower the RPM's in a motor for cruising speed so in therory I would think it would make the motor work harder to reach the goal of the RPM's you want but at the same time your cart will be faster at lower RPM's and as always you will lose the torque on a stock setup but with your cam it shouldn't hurt you that much.

i have tom's 23, with the cam and rev kit,
i ordered the 6 to 1 for my set up, cause i wanted to to take away some torque, these motors have plenty to spare!!!!
i rode on lost huskers cart, wich has the set up you are looking for, he has
8 to 1 gears in his ezgo, toms v-twin, his cart still acted like it had plenty of torque to spare!!!!!!
and it was fast.......really fast!!!!

I can push up to 4400 RPM's have the 18hp with rev kit and key, I can run about 37. Hope this helps.

This is what I'm talking about, ezgojohny wants 5500RPM's where LostHusker is stating he has 4400 @37 MPH. That's a lot of RPM's to turn using 8:1 gears.
