Default Engine suggestions

I have a 1988 ezgo. I am in the process of pulling the motor because I have replace the pulsar coil. I know down the road I would like to switch out the engine and I figured why not look into it now.

So what type of motor do you guys suggest? Should I stay with gas or do I go diesel? if possible I would like to turbo it or supercharge it. Im not sure if supercharging it is real possible on these small motors.

You may want to post this in your other thread so people are aware of the developments.
