Throttle response V-twin 23hp
I have seen the videos and read the forums about the v-twins. I have a 23hp in a custom 6-passenger, and it runs great but does not have that crisp throttle response I hear from others in the videos. It is a CPP Club Car install, stock.
Most I see appear to have stock carbs. Mine is the stock 2bbl. Slow response way slow start. (gotta use choke most of the time) Is it the full rev kit that does it, or is there something else I can do, like an advance key, etc? |

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
Lets see a picture of that bad boy! I would call Tom first. CC-john had some excellant tips on making the stock 2 barrells more mid range freindly. Marathon1989 has knowledge of these also. Have to remember, these engines were desighned for idle to 38k rpm for there aplications, so there are some issues, but when you get them dialed in...awsome I went with twin Mikuni's, but I would stick with a single if I ever did it again. You asked the right question, I'm shure you'll get alot of awnser's. Good luck

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
I need to take a picture with new phone! Switched from BB to Samsung and pictures wouldn't transfer. It's a CC, I did the stretch and custom rollcage, 7.5 Allsport lift, IPT wheels, 4-wheel disc, bunch of other stuff. Burnt orange metallic faded to black, silver thorn-style tribals.
It's heavy, long, and will run out well enough, just seems to "lag" on the throttle. I realized it was a lawnmower motor, and didn't give it much more thought, but then I see some these guys with crisp throttle response, sounding like a motorcycle --- makes me want some!!! |

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
Welcome to BGW Shack!
We'll need to know a little more about the motor... What non-stock items does it have? Does it have a governor? A rev-kit will not make it to rev "crisper". It just allows you to rev it higher and not hurt the valvetrain. What clutches are you running, and have they been modified(springs/weights)? |

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
It's the CPP box stock 23hp. I guess it's the Comet clutch. told Tom what I had and he set up the clutch. Has a governor and Tom has them throttled thru the Differential governor as well. Has the header, but goes into a stock Briggs looking "box" muffler. I asked about going directly to the carb with a throttle cable, and he didn't seem too keen on the idea.
Revs are fine, tach shows 4k WOT and then it stretches out to 4200. Gps is 32 mph, which is plenty fast with 6 people on board. It is really pretty good, it is just hard to start (always need choke) and has a sluggish throttle. |

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
I've seen few Vanguards that didn't need to be choked to start when cold. If you fatten up the low-side jets it will start without the choke, but it will load up when idling. I prefer to use the choke. Even my supercharged Vanguard needs the choke when starting cold.

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
It's not a huge deal. It can be "unchoked" in 20-30 seconds and will idle all day after that. Any tricks to crisp throttle?

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
You won't get the throttle response that others are getting if you have the governor installed.

Re: Throttle response V-twin 23hp
How about bypassing all the linkages/governor at the transmission..
just pedal straight to carb linkage. |
