Default My cart with a snowmobile engine

So I've had my cart for a few years but haven't drove it a lot it. Has a 377 in it I've only drove it when I would go up north cause the area I live in the cart is to loud to drive neighbors complain about the smoke/slash fuel smell. My first question is do these two stroke snowmobile engines smoke this much or is maybe my carb not dialed in right and if I wanted to swap the snowmobile engine for a 4 stroke what options do I have without getting to expensive also here is a video of my cart running

Won't happen for that much $. The little stuff adds up quick. I'd say closer to $700ish to be realistic. I know some have done it cheaper including myself, but then also had to go back thru and fix/change things once we gt it moving and that cost more $. I have about 1K into my swap with new engine, cables, mounting bracket, clutches, belt, and misc.

seems like it runs ok to me normal smoke for a sled/2stroke. maybe if you drive around enough you'll poff your neighbors and they'll move and you will get cool new neighbors

Smoke from a two stroke is from the oil. You could try switching to a better oil, or even just a different oil. What mix are you using? You might be mixing too much oil in there.

2 strokes never get quieter. If noise is the issue, get a clone. The Duromax is ok, the Lifan is better, and the Vegas Carts engine is the best IMHO. You can get the Vegas Carts version with the muffler and air filter ready to go. It will be a vast improvement over your current engine.

If you have a good clutch to use, the swap could be as cheap as $500. If the engine shipped is $379 from Vegas Carts, you'll need some steel to make a mount, and an adapter to use your tapered clutch for $40. If you can use your current belt and throttle cable, that puts you at $419 with some room for bolts and such.

As soon as you want to modify and make more power.....that's where the bucks come in....exhaust, carb, cam, springs, rockers, push rods,.....add another $500 for all that stuff.

Get a full synthetic oil they smoke the least. Slo is right you can't do much about smoke and noise. You could mod the exhaust and make it quieter.

Clone you can do easy for 500 if you do stuff yourself. I bought my engine on sale for 264 but not sure you will find that, but 300 is very popular price for a 420cc. Vegas cart engines are great if you have a few extra coin. You can make exhaust first one I did was made out of 1" black pipe lol and chunk of SS flex. Got a car muffler and car airbox for $10 each at a boneyard. You need the clutch adapter to use the cart clutch. You have to figure out how to hook up the cables, but all that stuff is on here at BGW. I be that cart was about $400. If you spend $20(?) and get a timing key and HD springs it will rev higher and get you more speed. I doubt I am much over 600 maybe with my cart, with custom header and car muffler (all new), car airbox piped to front of cart, timing key, cut and ported head (125, but nicely done by a pro), HD springs, etc. Motor mount is only two pieces of 3/8x1.5(or 2") bar stock maybe 10" long or something....I found mine in the scrap lol. Just need to weld it in there and get the motor lined up.

Hi NvrHapy,
$500 is quite possible if you make most of what you need yourself. Like spending $100 on a mounting plate or making it with $20 of scrap and 2 hours of time. It's a trade. The $100 one will look prettier, but it should...

If I were in your position, I would try the synthetic that Sho said. If that cures the smoke/fuel smell then I would certainly mod the exhaust before doing a powerplant swap. Are you happy with the current engine, performance wise?

For exhaust mods, you can head to your local motorcycle mechanic. They might have used stock mufflers on the cheap. If it were me, I'd leave the current muffler in place then pipe the exhaust into a Harley muffler after that. With my cart I found that when I put the tip on the muffler aiming down, it cut the noise by around 20% vs. having the tip point straight back.

I like the performance I'll try a full synthetic to see if that helps , muffler right now is routed along the passenger side and the tip of the tail pipe is about 5 inches above the rear passenger tire firing down not sure how I could and more exhaust of another muffler . And the only other thing is the snowmobile engine seems so temperamental right now I'm having an issue with the idle being to high
