Default 16 hp Vanguard performance questions

Hello new to the forum this will be my #1 post!!!

I dont have a golf cart but i came here because it seems there is plenty of information on the BIG BLOCKs hah but anyway i had a speedex tractor if any of yuo even know what it is long story short i had to repower it so i got 2 16 hp vanguards 1 threw a rod other is in running condition but who knows on how many hours are on it but it runs great i do wheelies all the time with it if i had more traction i could outpull many garden tractors haha im running it strait piped . I have some questions on how far performance goes=

Where is the best place to buy parts?? like head gaskets and such?
on my parts engine i pulled the heads i was going to mill .040 thousands off them i have read that 45 is safe is that the max i can do??

Also im going to machine valve spring spacers but my question to you guys is how thick are they in the high rev kit? im looking to turn like 4000-4200 rpms but i hope to raise compresion and a 23 hp cam in the future.

ANY ADVISE WILL BE TAKING ON UPPING PERFORMANCE ON THESE ENGINES!! btw im on the gttalk forum as superspeedex.

Have my own machine shop at home thats why im doing most the work and some proting and polish an valve job

Ok finally after a super long post its over if any of you can helps thanks alot...Sincerely logan

I buy my stock Briggs parts mostly from psep.biz.

I have milled a set of Vanguard heads .060" without any issue.

The rev kit is sold by one of our site sponsors, so it wouldn't be fair to give out any of the dimensions(although it is easy to figure out). Contact CPP and they may give you the dimensions. The shims are only part of the kit. The billet spring retainers are a must because the stock stamped steel retainers will fail with the extra spring pressure.

Ok .060 think i could go any more?? to me it looks as if there alot of room in there but i dont want to bump it up enough as to where i have to run race fuel.

can you buy the spring retainers separately? billet aluminum right i would think the steel ones would be stronger

If you go much more than .060", the intake manifold won't line up with the ports on the heads. When you shave .060" from each head, the heads actually get closer to each other by almost .085"(.042" each side).
