16hp Kawasaki work in progress
Okay guys. The motor is out of the carton and in the cart. Still needs alot of tweeking. Lots of torque but not alot of speed yet. We're working on it but will take some time. Also a pic of the cart which will be torn down to the frame and redone from a new body on up. Didn't want to put the new body on until we were through messing with the motor. Enjoy.

Re: 16hp Kawasaki work in progress
Took the cart out for some off roading near the house this morning. Did pretty good actually. Went up some hills about the same speed as on the flat. We GPSed at almost 18 mph. I know it's capable of quite abit more. We have the springs for the clutch on order. We think that's a big part of the power problem. Should be here tomorrow or the next day and also a K & N filter and we're going to modify the muffler too. Just alot of tweeking still to do. Got the new body on Friday but it had the cut-outs which I didn't want so they're sending the right one and that should be here Weds. or so. I have a bedroom full of parts that are ready to go on once we start the rebuild. Just all kinds of trick stuff. I'll keep everyone posted as we go along. I'm just happy it's finally out of the carton and in the cart.

Re: 16hp Kawasaki work in progress
You have done a great job on it so far! I'm anxious to see that new body on it, it will be SHARP.
I have found that the springs for the driven clutch don't help with the bigger engines, they only make you go slowly up a hill but with plenty of torque and power. The stock spring allows the clutch to open much faster and accelerate much faster. If you set the stock spring to the "Carryall" setting, you should be just as well off. |

I'll tell my BF what you said. This is all a learning process for us. Appreciate any input.

Re: 16hp Kawasaki work in progress
Just an update. Made afew more changes last night and now we've got 24.5 mph with GPS. Big improvement. Think we're heading in the right direction with this motor

Re: 16hp Kawasaki work in progress
How is your clutching going? I see that you have the Club Car clutch on there now. The Comet that Tom sells has a faster advance rate which translates to better acceleration. At the point of 16hp, you can have the clutch advance as fast as it can and you'll have the power to keep going. It gives it a much better feeling of aggressive acceleration. If you put a stiffer spring in the clutch with one of those, it just fights itself. The Club Car clutch doesn't have a really fast advance rate, so the weaker the spring in the rear clutch, the better off you'll probably be when it comes to on-road accleration and pickup.
