Big Block endurance
Hello, This is my first thread so please go easy on me. Very serious about buying a G29 cart and using it for street legal use as my town passed an ordinance. My question is I've driven stock carts and they are too slow in my opinion to keep with flow of traffic in any way. With a big block swap i.e.. Vanguard 23 hp are they capable with the right gearing of running a sustained 25-30 mph without overheating or suffer very short engine life due to high rpms? Any general experience on running one more than just short hops or as street use would be appreciated.

Re: Big Block endurance
If you use a brand new engine and keep it mostly stock, it should last a long long time. The Vanguards have pressurized oiling which means they use an oil filter, so regular maintenance is like a car. They are air cooled, so if you live and drive it in a hot climate you might want to invest in a temp sensor and cooling fan, I've seen both done on here. Power wise, I'd go with the largest displacement engine you can afford and keep it stock, they have plenty of power. With stock gears they will cruise at 25 mph no problem, but with a set of high speed gears it will lower rpm and top out at over 40 mph, even with the governor.
My advice, read as much as you can about the projects on this forum. These guys are good. Lots of info here and we always try to answer questions. Post lots of pics when you get your project going. |

Re: Big Block endurance
Stock cart will do around 20 with no governor, lots of rpm. With HS gears or 22 tires they do about 27-30mph usually with no governor. With both you can run up around 40+ but would need a big block I think to get there not stock engine. I ran 30 on the road with a stock G9 on 22s just a screaming it, on gps. With a few mods I have hit 38 with my clone on gps on the road max rpm no governor. I think I can hit 40 we will see, might take some extra pressure in the rear tires lol and my clutches working just right, it has stock gearing. Most people put HS gears in so they can run 30 at low rpm, or go faster if they need to, with a lifted big tire cart. I put HS gears in an old CC and ran 28gps hitting the limiter that made the engine cut out, it was otherwise completely stock a '93 I think. The BB engines don't go any faster unless you work on them because lawn engines run about the same rpm as a stock cart engine or maybe a little faster. But on my clone I put a rev kit and other things to help it out so it revs higher than a stock engine would with no governor. If you need to go faster you need gears IMO, they really work some carts you can even get 6:1 gears they really move.

You don't have to work a lot on a BB sho to achieve some amazing results.

Re: Big Block endurance
Keep drinking the clone-aid. Jk...you can get good results from a clone too. It's a stepping stone.

Re: Big Block endurance
More like flies on sh@# LOL.
It is a stepping stone. Vtwins are expensive. But, they are considered the best. You can't get a Caddy for the price of a Chevy. The only reason I didn't get one was because of cost. That's it. If the HF Vtwin ever shows up on here I might get one. We'll see how that plays out. Don, hows the cart running? Missing the charger yet? Oh, and I have dated a supermodel before. It's not all its cracked up to be. |
