Default Vanguard block differences

I have a 18hp vanguard v twin and was wondering if the block was the same on the 12 and 14 but with a different bore. I found a bare block for a cheap price so I was thinking I'd get it bored and have a backup. Thanks

Briggs doesn't make a horizontal 12hp Vanguard as far as I know. The blocks from 14hp to 20hp are the same as far as I can tell. The difference is with the stroke of the crank, and the bore. Some blocks have a cover that accomodates a double PTO bearing, but your cover should fit. The heads will interchange without modification. The 23hp heads will also fit the smaller motors, but a different intake manifold is required. For what it would cost to have the block bored, you could find a different motor with alot of extra parts.

Sorry It's a 14 or 16 block. Anyone know how much boring costs?

The 14/16 block can't be easily bored to accept an 18/20 piston. The steel cylinder sleeve does not have enough material to go that big.
