Default Cbr 600 F3 engine going into Yamaha Drive (Have Axle Question??)

Okay I have got my engine mounted in the frame and all supported but I am stuck on the axle... I plan on using a straight axle from a gokart I currently bought a 1" solid steel axle with a 1/4" key way. First question will the axle and keyway with stand the power of the 600 f3 engine? Next I am wondering what wheel hubs and sprocket hubs others have used in this type of setup? and next would be what type of chain and sprocket hub 520,530 chain or a 40 41 chain? Please give me a hand This chick really wants to get this cart out there to tear up the pavement.

since nobody has replied to my post,i will share with you what i am doing. on my cushman hawk i plan on removing the stock rear axle and replacing it with a polaris atv trans so i still have reverse. from there via chain power will go to a go cart live axle mounted on pillow blocks.i will use the stock trans mounted disc brake since i already have hydraulic brakes. parking brakes will be 2 mechanical go kart calipers hooked up to my stock cables. as far as hubs go,mine is 5 on 4.5 so i have a pair of 1 inch wheel horse hubs.i dont know how you plan on running the drive on yours, but worse case you shear a keyway instead of breaking hard parts. plenty of 4 lug go kart hubs available online,i would suggest splined axle and hubs for a bit more strength.Roger

From my go-kart racing days,..... I don't think a 1" axle will hold up on rough terrain. I'd go 1 1/4 tube axle. I'd also stay with 4 on 4 bolt circle on wheels.
Also if you have a Tractor supply co. they carry hubs, sprockets and chains.

mudpatrol I'll search for your thread,....that Cushman Hawk is what lead me to this nut house.

If you interested I can PM you a link to a go-kart supplier,.......

I checked tractor supply but did not find anything other than 50 chain and the bike uses 530 chain, I found a couple sprockets that will work with a hub for 530 chain but the only hubs I can find are aluminum built for a go kart and I am not sure they will be strong enough to hold up to the torque.
As far as the axle goes I think I might go with a stronger axle but this cart is not being built for off road use it's being built for pavement and dirt roads I already built a Army cart a couple weeks ago that uses bayou 300 front suspension and a bayou 300 drive train I had a thread on it as well.

Take a look at my build, I used Mini Sprint car rear axle and components, mounted it to a swing arm using Pillow Block bearings, added front and rear jam bolts to align the pillow blocks. My axle was 1-3/8 dia 4130 Chromoly and I still bent 2 of them before I added support bearings on each side of the sprocket but 12000 RPM launch on a dragstrip with 10 inch slicks put quite a bind on the axle. You may be able to use the 1 inch but even the 600CC will be hard on it. My engine was a Honda CBR 1000RR, I used a 60 tooth on the axle and lowered the stock front sprocket to a 13 to keep it from bogging on launch but that made it crazy low geared, had to go to 6th to drive it around the neighborhood and not have the engine screaming, I have a couple rear sprockets and maybe a couple hubs if you need them. Where are you??

I am located in Kansas City Mo, Where did you find your sprockets and hubs? are you still using the 520 or 530 bike chain? I am also looking for a hydraulic brake setup for the rear I've been looking for a brake caliper/master cylinder, clutch pedal, and some type of shifter and probably other various things I am forgetting.

This is what it started out as 100$ from Local golf cart shop... I couldn't believe it was so cheap I do need a seat to if anyone has one that will fit.

This is where I am at now motor is just sitting on a couple temp mounts to finish wiring and get everything lined up

Here is my other build Kawasaki Bayou 300 engine and front suspension reused the Bayou 300 rear end on a modified stock swing arm to fit the bayou axle it is almost finished other than some accessories like military fuel tanks and ammo boxes and a new seat cover.

One other question Rifter, what hubs are you using and have you had any issues with them breaking due to the amount of force they are seeing?
