4wd with Jakes front end
I have a 98 TXT with a jakes long travel front end "with" disc brake kit and 23's. I plan to use a Suzuki 300 king quad 4x4 I picked up today as my donor motor. Currently I am only planning to install this donor in a 2wd fashion because I wasn't sure if I could modify the jakes kit (which I want to keep) to fit the front parts needed to make it 4wd. Has anyone done this before with a jakes kit and successfully made it 4wd?

Re: 4wd with Jakes front end
I all honesty I couldn't tell you without putting my hands on it,....
but,... seems like you could graft the hubs/spindles to the jakes. Then on the other hand why not sell the jakes, and graft the 4wd front under it. |

Re: 4wd with Jakes front end
I like the jakes and it has much better brakes than the ones on the 4 wheeler, plus the jakes is the long travel version. The geometry is already done with the jakes and I don't see any reason to think that the 4 wheeler front end will not articulate as well as what's already there. No need to go to the effort of taking the kit off, selling, dealing with shipping, etc... And I bet I don't have 15-20 miles on the front end, I haven't even gotten close to my money's worth out of it yet. I'll figure this out if no one has done it yet. I only ask because I'm a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel if it's already been done. I've got better things to do than to spend time figuring out something that's already been designed. Copy it and move on...

Re: 4wd with Jakes front end
Haven't seen this done before but I'm sure it's possible. If it were me, I'd take the Jake's off, set it aside and work on making the quad front function. This way you still have it if things don't work out, but it's worth a try with the quad front clip just to have functional 4wd. But that's just me, either way i'll be watching your build.

Re: 4wd with Jakes front end
Now that I've had my first pot of coffee
Welcome to BGW. Home of a lot of knowledgeable people May I suggest taking some pictures and posting here and maybe a few other experts will chime in. I'm mostly a Honda atv guy and not familiar with a Suzuki I know where you coming from with the jakes front. But just thinking using the jakes you will have to adapt hub assembly to a-arms then adapt brake disc to that Suzuki hub then adapt tie rods to that hub also. Axles will have modified also. Now is the time to weigh all the options. |
