Default Honda ATV into a Workhorse

I am new to this thread , I didn't realize there was an ATV engine into a cart sub-forum and should have put my project here instead of the EZGO thread , I am putting a old school 1985 TRX250 Fourtrax engine and the swingarm' ed , rear end into a 2006 EZGO Workhorse ST350 , also had the choice to use a 1996 300 engine but think the 250 is much more responsive and faster than the 300 , been a couple of weeks since I made any real progress on the cart , just picking away here and there , working on boxing the frame , motor mounts , cross members , which are mostly all fab'ed up and hoping to get some welding done this weekend and have the engine bolted into the frame , I am going to start out with 25x12 in the rear , maybe ITP Swamplites or Mudlites as the cart will spend some time in the wet mud and it has some 25x9's in the front , it has a factory drop axle , Jake's drop down spindles and the leafs have been relocated on top the axle , working on some steering tie rod extensions ------- my concern right now is brakes , Jake's offers a disc kit for their spindles that work hydraulically and tie into the existing brakes without affecting them , I am think of getting that kit in the future but want to see the cart perform first as this is a low budget project , so I have to be careful of butchering up the existing brake linkage to make the rear brake cable from the rear end work out so when I do get the disc kit it will still mate up , so I really need to get an instruction / installation manual from the Jake's kit before I go to cutting

250 will have the spunk, the 300 motor will last forever. The weak point of a Honda 300 is the rear differential. Main thing you will run into is that the 250 or 300 rear wheel spacing is going to be narrow. You will then have to put wheel spacers on the rear. As for as the brakes I'm running the rear stock drum brakes from the Honda 350es and running the front 300ex hydro brakes. I actuate the front master cylinder off the brake pedal. I'm still having some issues with the brakes but hope to solve that this weekend. The EX bike has been sitting for some time and the masters where frozen. Good luck

I am a Fourtrax guy for many years now , got quite a few , thats how I got into this Fourtrax /Ezgo conversion , bought a 250 cheap for the rear end of a 300 I am building and it rans so good , had a Workhorse sitting there not running --------------- the 250A/350D/ATC250ES rear ends are a much better rear end and it is an easy conversion , it has axle tubes on both sides , double bearings on each axle end , hubs that ride on a seal and a bearing , a lot better at keeping the oil in and water out not only the differential but the brake drum as well , all the 300's I have , have 250/350or ATC 250 ES rear ends in them , the wheel base of the cart is going to be perfect , a 250ES rear end is 2 inches wider than the 250A and 350D to start with , 2 inch spacers , 10 inch wide rims that are offset 7 out and 3 in , I am not going to run the tires in the pic , think 25x12 or 26x13 , have 2 inch spacers in the front with 25x9's and those tires in the pic are going to stay

Going to be a cool build. I put the exact rear end combo in my Tri-x-Side, (there's a build post). Worked great. If you find a rear disc conversion I'd be interested in getting one.

I was into 4x4 and Bronco big time , I'd call it an obsession , I put my heart , soul and most of the pay checks into it , I ordered a 82 with every option available and it was $25 K , had to wait 8 weeks to get it and had $5 K worth of parts , to start with ) in the garage waiting for it , the day I got it I started modifying it , the roof came off and never went back on , a toga cover was made for it , 6 inch Skyjacker suspension lift , 4 inch body lift , Firestone Baja air bags on all 4 corners , onboard pump with a independent controller with gauges under the dash , 4 shocks on all corners , lowered the shock towers for 2 more inches , lockers front and rear differentials , auto locking hubs , started out with 35's , went to 40's and found 38.5 Grand Prix's on alum TurboVec rims spun the best , cut the wiring harness for the EEC controller on the 351 W , Eldenbrock high rise , Holley carb , dual point distributor , Isky cam , Hooker headers , Sneaky Pete timing gears , Holley water injection to run regular fuel with out the ping , 10,000 Warn on an OxyLite alum bumper on the front , Warn 6,000 under the rear license plate , both winches worked from the dash rockers or with remotes , modified a dual alternator setup like on ambulances , came with 2 batteries and added another , 1,000 watt stereo and 8 speakers ,Cb with all the controlls in the mick with a lineaner booster , light bar and 6 KC's on the roof , 2 on the front bumpers and 2 under the rear , I could go on and on , I used the truck in the mud , it was not a concrete cruiser , sent pics to OffRoad Magazine and a few months after I sold it I got a call from them saying they were in New Orleans and wanted to do an article on my truck , I was heart broken ---- I had so much fun with that truck , we camped out every weekend up in Kiln Mississippi ( the moonshine capital of the world ) on Catahoula creek -------- but even after all that the 76 was a horse that was hard to beat

It is most probally going to be Swamp Lites , we have a ATV riding club at my house , it is pretty sloppy , looking for something aggressive , I run Mudzilla's on my pride 4x4 300 , they are nice tires , the wife's bike has the ITP's , I have a WorkHorse with a little lift and bigger tires and it can skirt the sides but the belt drive don't get it with water ----I was the service manger of a heavy equipment rental company and the company changed ownership , they were liquidating the EZGO's and going with Deere and I picked two up really cheap , I refurbed the first one years ago and the second one that I stolen a bunch of parts off for the first one was just sitting , it was you post Cool that inspired me to build this cart when you used the 250 rear end , that rear end is the bread and butter of my 300 fleet , I pick up the basket case 300 which most are blown rear ends and fab the 250 into it , I got 7 of them running right now , I had 12 at one time , sold a few and blew up a couple and used parts from them on others , it is no fun riding by your self
