Default Yamaha G22-E Resurrection Project!

Hello Everybody, I have a 2003 Yamaha G22-E that I would like to convert to Gas. I have a 125cc Yamaha Automatic Fourwheeler that has a decent amount of power, used it to tow a few dead golf carts before. I believe this engine will have no problem moving the cart once it is installed. My issue is the Gearing on the golf carts rear end. Thinking of using a 10 tooth sprocket on the axle splines and maybe a 16 tooth on the motor? Maybe? Or I was thinking a comet sprocket clutch on the motor and a 10 tooth on the axle splines? What do you guys think? Normally I would go with a different engine or axle setup, but I'm a guy who likes to work with what he has available. Any help or ideas on this project would be greatly appreciated. I'm in need of a little guidance.

Figuring the gearing out will be the problem. One of which I have no answer too. As for the engine. I don't think you'll be happy with the small 125cc engine. I'd opt for something at least double that size.

While in it's original form it may have towed many a golf cart, I don't think it will have enough power for your uses in the cart and even with good gearing will barely crawl, especially if your going up any type hill.

Seen this subject many times pop up.

Electric gears are 12.5:1 (some what, depends on model)

Atvs are 6:1 (some what, depends on model)

You can buy performance gears in 6:1 8:1,...

A lot of these builds end with a cart that does 10 mph in 5th gear, tacking about 6 grand. A 20 tooth drive with a 10 tooth driven may do it. Torque curve is off the charts,.. chain nose, broke chains.

Search the tube on Electric to gas golf carts

So I guess I should look into running a solid Axle?

You should be able to gear that to your needs, is there any cvt or such to be used or that came with the motor? Check the gearing of the atv it came out of and gear it the same or lower. I dont think a sold axle would do anything different then what you have now except maybe easier to fab up or gear.

If its hilly there the motor wont be strong enough but if its mostly flat you should be fine. Your probably going to be running 6 or 7 hp stock carts are 8, but if you put bigger tires on there will be problems.

YouTube a guy named Fearlessfront. He recently converted a sparky TXT to gas, and he made it work. I don't remember how he did the gears off the top of my head.

OK, I took a look at Fearlessfront's build and I really like how he put everything together. It's simple and effective. The Engine that I have did not come with any kind of CVT, there is no shifting you just give it gas and ride. I'm really starting to wonder if I should use the engine that I have or use one similar to the one Fearlessfront used.

Thoughts?
