Default 1988 ezgo/polaris 250 trailboss

Im new to the forum and carts so any help will be great. I just picked up an 88 ezgo in rough shape and i happen to have a polaris 250 trailboss sitting here waiting for something to be done with it. i was wondering if anyone would have any input or opinion on this combination.

Just have to gear it right, check out "220 too small" thread as he did a low power cart.

The 250 should work fine. I ran a G1 for a while using an 8hp briggs tiller engine and with stock clutches it was still pretty good on level ground doing about 30mph. Not so good on hills but still fun.

There are differences though between your 250 and the one that cfherrman said for you to check out. Yours will be set up just like any other cart engine as where the 220 has the gears you can shift thru. This alone will make a big difference.

We use what we have when building these carts. So I say go for it. Have fun building it, learn some fab work and then enjoy your work. You'll learn from the build and then can (And probably will) start looking for another cart to build with a bigger engine. You'll probably start searching out your next build before this one is even finished.

Good luck and be sure to start a build thread so that we all can enjoy it and also possibly help with tips and ideas.

I'm with smokindawg the trailboss 250 would work fine.. I also did a 220 bayou using the complete rear end (shaft drive)not only does it move pretty quick the thing can climb some hills.. the bump steering seems to be the biggest issue and added weight and width of the cart you will need to stiffen up your suspension.. there are a lot of good builds on here with the atv swaps you can follow.. Good luck and don't forget to start a build thread with pictures...

i was kind of thinking that it might be under powered but didnt know how much i could make up for that in sprocket size. i have two of the trailbosses sitting here one thats almost a complete machine and another parts one. ill still be on the look out for a little larger donor up until i start the project. i will be sure to post all progress with pics as i go.

i just had an offer to trade off the trailboss for a 07 buell blast 500cc. so to keep picking everyones brains, how would that sound. ive seen a few threads about motorcycle engine swaps. i believe the 500 has around 35hp 30tq. nothing insane might be just enough to be fun. i wonder if a trans from the trailboss could handle it? this is all in the planning stages right now.

the buell blast engine is just a xb9 (984cc) with a cylinder deleted from the case, there good motors. and for a cart they make good torque. you be amazed the parts you can interchange from the vtwin big brother to that motor....now your going to have to buy the sprocket conversion cause they don't make different sized belts for that drive. id recommend if using that engine to use the xb12 primary. youll have more gear
