youll need some type of solid mount or swing arm from the motor to the axle, otherwise when the suspension cycles it will throw the chain off the sprocket

davidcmartin90 is correct. using a belt or chain drive the engine and axle needs to move as one unit. Unless your a good enough engineer to make the distance between axle and engine not change much as the suspension works.

You could also incorporate a idler in the system.

just as an example... here is mine. but for your application, where i have my swing arm mounted to my axle with u bolts, you could add 2 more bearings there, and on the front side of the swing arm, add a rod end or heim joint to let the suspension still articulate. i went on the vegas carts website and kind of used their engine cradle as a guide to fabricate mine

You can add a chain tensioner to take the slack

Whoa dude! That is WAAAAY to long a shaft that size to go unsupported between the bearings to handle the pull of a chain. Especially if you are going to put some serious torque in front. Where is your differential?
