Default need drive clutch

just bought a nice honda 13hp. 2 cylinder water cooled engine out of a broken gen set. Need to order a drive clutch for my ezgo conversion but see that this engine has a 7/8 to 11/8th tapered output shaft with no keyway and bolt threads. where will I find a clutch to fit?

Beeoh - there's no easy way to say it. The taper on the crankshaft is unique to a generator engine. There is no clutch that fits that type taper. You may be able to find a crank adapter if you trust that kind of things. There are very few seen on ebay cause they don't work that well. You might get a new crankshaft for your engine. That would easier and safer.

okay...not the news I was hoping for...this is such a great little engine that I'm hoping for a solution to the problem and maybe somebody out there can help me out. I will start looking into a taper to straight shaft adapter if I can find a source.

This is how I fixed the taper problem, only way I could figure out to get it right, strip the engine outside parts and fix it in a Lathe and cut it down.

1.00 od, turn down the shaft, end drill deeper cut to length, drill depth to size, tap threads, done.

let me get this right: engine is stripped then mounted in lathe with headstock turning the crankshaft on the flywheel side and tail stock is supporting output shaft? just leave out spark plug so engine turns freely? Is there a post on this somewhere?

What about a keyway to lock the clutch to the shaft?

The clutch I used had a taper(not the same as gen), Carts parts plus one of our Sponsor sells an adapter to 1 inch straight, I used that and it works perfect. I also have used another one of the same adapters on two different engines. As far as Broaching a key way, you would have to remove the crank.

That is exactly how I did it. I did shim the Crank Case to the bed and clamped it. I think I did post about this I'll try to find it.
