CBR 600 motor in a G2 new to this.
Ok this is my first build. I started this project today. I am taking a CBR 600 motor and trying to cram it into a g2 golf cart. I am going to try to track this all along the way and I will keep the pictures up. I am hoping this build will not take too long so keep an eye out. Any advise is welcome but please be nice this is my first cart build.
Thanks to you all. Have a look at what I got so far. |

One word of advice...get a manual for the bike.I found one online for the bike I got and marked all the wiring with a sharpie and masking tape.I also am trying to use all the parts off the bike I can.Save a little green because you already have all kinds of parts left....calipers,rotors.etc.Keep up the good work.

Re: CBR 600 motor in a G2 new to this.
I was kind of thinking of figuring out a way to use the hydraulic brakes that are on the bike. Ya I am going to hang on to everything on the bike until the build is complete. I am good with bikes but this is my first cart. I was thinking to remove the harness like I did the one on the cart. Just pull all of the electronics and the harness complete that way I don't get things mixed up.
I think I am going to have to make a completely new engine cradle for this. I kind of wanted to use the one that was in the cart but I think the motor will probably twist the one that it has in it. Plus I would like to put the rear wheels back a few more inches. I was thinking of putting a quad front end on the front to get a good lift out of it plus the suspension articulation. I am not sure though I kind of just wanted to put a big lift on it but I cant find one more than 6 inches. Any advise? |

Re: CBR 600 motor in a G2 new to this.
Ok I went out today and got the bike stripped down. It was easier than I thought to take a street bike apart. I got out the wire harness out pretty much complete. I want to keep as much of the wiring from the bike as possable to utilize the lights. rather than spend all of the money on a light kit for my bike I was thinking of using the blinker, the running lights and the headlight harness with my cart so it will be street legal.
Well this is the finished product of what came out of the bike. All of the wiring and everything is in a box. I want to have it as light as possible and as small as possible to mount it in the cart. I am still not sure I am thinking of cutting the frame behind the rear shock mounts so I can make a custom sub frame to hold the motor and the rear diff. I was also thinking of extending the wheel base a few inches and dropping the sub frame down to add a few inches and I would have a little more clearance. |

Re: CBR 600 motor in a G2 new to this.
Ok today I got he engine cradle stripped and the rear diff out. I am going to modify the original engine cradle and reinforce it to hold up to the cbr 600 motor. The rear diff I need to crack open and tear out the governor crap. Lets hope I do it right. LOL anyone got any links on a differential tear down or any advice??

Re: CBR 600 motor in a G2 new to this.
I read in another thread you couldn't get the drums off ? You can just unbolt the axle tubes at the diff, then disassembe the diff to remove the govenor shaft/fork and don't forget to remove the govenor weights on the input shaft. good time to change the gears. You may need a new gasket, if the old one is damaged, you could have binding problems. the gasket is used to seal, but also matched with the gear shaft spacers internally. What are the 2 tabs at the front of the swing arm for ?

So I should just be able to pull the tubes off is there any clips or anything that hold the axles or do they just slide out when I pull the tubes? How do I know what parts to remove? Will this effect how the rear diff locks up? Once I take the governor off is that it and where can i get gears for this thing?? |
