Default Club car DS or EZ go for 1000cc build

I have a 1000cc motorcycle engine that I would LOVE to put into a golf cart frame. I came upon an aluminum frame w/ complete front end and rear axle with all wheels and tires from a 1989 electric DS cart (club car) I got it for $120. I plan on using a narrowed car axle or maybe an atv axle for the build, but I'm not too sure on that yet.

there is a 1990 EZ go gas cart complete with all body electrical and motor I can buy for $500.

My question now, is do I stick with the ds cart frame, or would the EZ go make a better candidate for what I want to do?

Thanks!

Can you weld aliminum? If not go with the EZGO. I have a 1000RR engine in mine, you should think long and hard about about how you want to do this because it will have more power and speed than any STOCK golf cart suspension will EVER handle.

I cannot weld aluminum, but I figured I could bolt most stuff on, and weld onto that.

you have a 1000rr motor in an ez go? what year, how did you do the final drive? I am VERY curious to see how you built yours.

Thanks!

2004 Honda 1000RR in a Yamaha G9, if you want to see how I did it read my build thread "Finally getting started" it has pics of the whole build. The final tweaks to get the 1/8th mile times is not in there but it will get you going down the road. Be prepaired to spend alot of money.

This is so true ... Nobody realizes
A. How few of these bike builds actually ever run
B. How much money it costs to build one properly
C. how few of these projects ever come to completion

Thanks Scotty, I really like this- A.B.C.- of Bike engine carts, I see so many come and go on here, some of the ones that actually get to move on their own power are absolute DEATH TRAPS watch the YouTube video 150MPH golf cart, that shows it can be done but I doubt if those 2 guys are alive now. When you begin a high speed/horse power project like this the first thing that should be considered is being able to stop it, then making sure it will handle good enough to handle the power, then consider installing the power. Since mine is basically complete and I have had to make changes during the build to deal with the power and handling issues I want to WARN anyone attempting this. - THIS IS CAPABLE TO EASILY GO OVER 100MPH AND EASILY LOSE COMPLETE CONTROL AND THE DRIVER AND CERTAINLY ANY PASSENGERS TO SUFFER SEVERE INJURIES AND EVEN DEATH. DO NOT ATTEMPT AND BUILD LIKE THIS UNLESS YOU ARE SKILLED IN FABRICATION, SUSPENSION SETUP, AND DRIVING ABILITIES.

I agree
I see these "projects" on craigslist frequently. Always unfinished, = just needs a chain and a sprocket somehow

But yes, The disclaimer is quite important. I think yours was built for closed course racing? Anyway your's is one of the few that we have seen come to completion. I expect to see Smallblock's motorcycle powered cart running soon also. You guys are 2 of the best fabricators I have seen on bgw ... my advice to anybody considering this project is think it through very well and then ..... reconsider doing it at all

What I mean is, ... what are you going to use it for when it is complete?
Street racing? Somebody's gonna get hurt.
Off roading? Somebody's gonna get hurt.
Camping? Somebody .... well you get the idea...
Just to put the power to weight thing into perspective, Putting 100hp in a golf cart is a 10 times increase in power ... sound good? I have a 300hp pickup truck. It pulls anything and is fast empty ( reaches 100mph ) .... NOW, imagine driving it with 3000hp. WTH!? Okay, I'm done now.
Good luck and be safe

I built mine for Drag Strip asphalt/dirt straight line only. With the swing arm setup I have making quick turns is NOT an option. The only way I was able to compete in the Figure 8 race at the 2009 Bonanza was to drift the corners and that was a hand full. Any cart with a bike engine IN MY OPIONION should be built as low to the ground as possible to keep your center of gravity low, carts are top heavy in the first place, lifting them just makes it worse, then add a full cage to it well even more top weight. I don't mean to bust any bubbles or take away from anyones fab skills/abilities but high horsepower builds need a racing back ground assembly or something could go very wrong.

These all sound like reasonable precautions and warnings. Just how much money should I expect to devote to this projects, on the high end? (assuming I already have the donor cart and motor)

Rifter: Exactly what kind of axle did you use for your swing arm? I looked at all your photos, and the only thing I am unclear of is exactly where and how you attached the arm to the frame, and what kind of axle you are using.
