Default Honda ATV engine swapped into Golfcart QUESTIONS

Hey guys I'm new to the site, and I hope I'm not beating a dead horse as I'm sure many have already asked similar questions. I have a Honda Recon that has been wrecked so as you can guess I am interested in taking the motor out and putting it into a golf cart frame. I've never done anything like this before so I need a little help deciding whether or not to go through with the plans. I have not gotten a frame yet but I am looking for a newer (post 199 body style cart. My first question is what kind or brand of cart would you guys suggest for this project and where would you suggest I look for one? My second biggest question is when I do get the motor mounted in, do I need to swap out the rear ends? The Recon has a shaft not chain driven. If so how would I go about doing this could I just put the whole axel from the atv underneath it? The Recon is a five speed foot shift and is a 250cc motor. I'm expecting the cart to travel just as fast as the Atv did. I'm assuming the weight of a Honda Recon and a golf cart is roughly the same?

your weight is off about 400 to 600 # i think my recon is around 320#
a recon with a ES shift would be the ticket.
a lot of fab work it should fit.

good luck ,

If I were making this swap I would use an EZGO or a YAMAHA just besause of the frame material. Club Cars are fine machines, just not everyday welder friendly.

Another thing to check also... Measure the height of the quad motor over-all. I used the frame of my kawasaki bayou to put my motor in. But mine is more like a quad with an ezgo body. If you were going to use a golf cart frame and rear-end. You'll have some planning to do. Make sure you look at every little detail. But the motor might be too tall to fit under the seat with out lifting the golf cart. I know my buddies 250 recon the cylinder sits upright at 90*.
If you use a gas cart. You could set it up in a custom rear cradle like alot of the snowmobile swaps are done. Post a couple of pics ot the motor and I might be able to help with some ideas.

oh... And if you have the whole four-wheeler... it helps alot! If it's not tore up too bad. You might be able to do like I did. But making a shifter can be tricky if you're not creative...

Did you notice this thread is 3 years old with nothing happening? Most of these builds, say 75% go unfinished. Unless you have skill, money, and determination these builds fail. Just my 2 cents and I've spent many a 2 cents here on these builds.
