This should be a new one
OK I have been following this sit for a little but and caught the bug. This is going to bemy trial cart before I build the one I will sink some money into. With that said here is the start of the project. OK OK dont laugh but I am using a Legend Golf cart. You almost have to do a pretty serious search on Goolge to even find another one. Good news is I got it free from a golf cart place locally. The bad news is I got it free from a local golf cart place. Its pretty rough but this is going to be strictly used for hunting at a property about an hour away and that is where this thing will live out the rest of its days. Next was how I was going to power this thing. I wanted power. Not CBR 1000 power like some guys one here but good torqy power that will get me and a few hogs up some steep hills and most importantly it needs to be quiet and have reverse. It started life as an electric cart so every thing had to be gutted out. Now to find the new power. I was able to pick up a 1997 yamaha big bear 4x4 350. I really wanted to make it 4x4 but the PO took the front diff out so this one will be rear drive only. The bike looked pretty rough but one pull andit fires right up without any smoke and sounds very tight! What do you guys think the power isgoing to be like with this combination? Here are some picts.

Re: This should be a new one
Here is the progress I have gotten so far. I am just doing some rough estimating first before the tack welding begins. I have lifted the front of the quad frame to where i think its pretty level. That iswhere it is sitting in the pictures. It seems like its going to have a pretty substantial lift right out of the gate without any more modification. Now I am going to figure out how Im going to get the front to match.

Re: This should be a new one
This evening got alot of the supprts welding in from the Big Bear fram to the cart frame. It's basically just keeping it in place right now. I think Ive got it pretty centered up. I would have posted some pictures but Im welding with flux core so it looks a little nasty right now. I want to clean it up a little before I get laughed at I saw another post one herewith someone saying the ATV swaps arent real popular becauseofthe lackof power. Well that got me pretty worried that I might have screwed up going for a quad powere plant until I found this. Its the same quad running gear that I am using on this. I think if mine performs half as good as this I will be very pleased. Again this is just going to be a hunting rig.

Re: This should be a new one
OK more updates. I have off on Wednesdays so I got to work on it most of the day. Today I got alot of the bracing done with the addition of the 2 main supports going from the quad frame to the cart. I used 120 dom so that should hold up I also got one of the cart wheels mounted on the quad rear. The quad is 4x110 so the cart wheel was just a hair too small. I reamed out the lug holes just enough for the studs to pass though. Even though I spun it and saw no sign of a wobble I'm pretty sure thiswill be just temporary. I still havent figured out what size rimsto go with. I will have two different bolt patterns from front to rear. Im pretty sure I'm going to go with 27s but unlike everyone else I want to find the thinnest ones available. I will probably be going mud and snow and probably will never see sand. I still have a little more welding to do and fix a few bearings and leaks on the quad. The parts should be in on friday so next update will probably be on Sunday when I start working on the linkages. Speaking of which came anyone show me pictures on how you guys have hooked up the throttle to the gas pedal and brakes also. Thanks

Re: This should be a new one
The rear swing arm needed some work. It has a small crack so the previous owner drilled 4 huge holes and bolted some angle iron to stiffen it. I took it apart welding up the crack after drilling a small hole at the end of the crack first. I then welded the angle in on both sides. It should be better than factory now. Now for the front end. I was going to swap in the IFS from the quad but after some pondering I think Im going to use the stock design with some minor mods. I am going to replace the mount with a heim joint and extend it out about 4 to 6 inches. This should give me some great articulation. I will then use the quad shocks and springs mounted in a different location for max articulation.

Re: This should be a new one
Hey its looking really good, I'm working on a similar project. I put a Honda Rancher 350 4x4 frame under an old Club Car. I pretty much extended the whole quad frame and set the cart frame on top. I still have to extend the front drive shaft but right now its a blast in 2wd. Tops out at 45mph. It could use more power but it still goes just fine. Keep posting pics I'll be watching this build.
