Default Which ATV motor to use?

I am new to the forum and just picked up an 81' Club Car. I am stuck on what ATV motor to use. Purpose for my cart will be running around the neighborhood, camping trip's to the spring's 3-4 time's a year, also when I get back into racing pit use...Oh yeah and just the cool factor of having a golf cart with ball's! Ive read alot of thread's and have not found the definitive answer of why people have chosen there particular motor setup's. I would like to think a 300 class motor would make me happy. Suggestion's?! Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, etc...

Thanks in advance,
Joel

Well with a 81 club car reverse is not in the rear axle. Now I dunno how important that is to ya. You could always swap in an axle. But pretty much the skys really the limit of what ya can dump in for a motor. From the clones to snowmobile, motorcycle/atv, etc.

It's all up to you on how much fab, modification and time ya want to put into it.

Likely the easiest way to use a cart axle is the polaris because they use similar CVT you can put a belt on and it works. Some other ATV are using them now. Some have put sprocket on the trans and use MC engines, sure you could with a ATV engine that was chain drive, then you have to shift gears and all. If you put a different or solid axle in then you can make it like a quad/etc. One guy put the entire 4x4 ATV under the cart on here, or the drivetrain anyway. So I guess I would focus on how you want to hook the drive up, what axle/trans you want to use, that will determine what engine you use more than anything unless you have a particular one sitting there for free.

Ive got a bare frame sitting on saw horse's in the garage awaiting part's...Im really liking the atv setup's front and back on the cart and leaning that way.

Hypothetically, if I buy Raptor 350 complete rearend and combined it with the cart do I necessarily need a raptor 350 motor to make it work?

Thanks again everyone who comment's, I appreciate your time and knowledge.

A chain driven solid axle? You can put those in a cart and run the chain with anything, it will be just like most sport quads are. Do have to get the engine to line up with the sprocket. You may have to put bearings on the outer parts of the axle for side support. Another guy put a gokart axle in that may depend on power level you are at, it was pretty cheap.

Yes...basically the rear end off a Raptor on my cart. I bought a swingarm off ebay and im watching the rest of the component's @ the moment. As long as everything line's up I should be good though...Thanks

That should be great, very strong setup. Lot of people still want a differential if they run on their yards/etc. But for offroad the solid axle is ideal. There is a side by side by me and I guess they can't turn off the 4x4, it tears the gravel drive up badly every time they park and back out.
