Steering Shaft Adaptor for a Grant Wheel?
Have a little problem with finding a steering wheel adaptor for my Hyundai cart.
Bought an adaptor for a Yamaha G2, but it's way too small. Some Yamaha parts interchange, and some don't. Steering don't. The shaft splines are 17.2 mm in diameter with about 40 splines....almost went blind trying to count the splines. Just beneath the splines is a tapered area that starts at 18 mm and tapers out to 18.8 mm. The overall height of the taper and splines (not counting the threaded shaft) are about 29 mm. Posted a bad pix of the steering shaft... Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I hate to put the ugly-a$$ed old steering wheel back on the cart. Bought a nice old style Grant steering wheel. Maybe call Grant tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks, JR |

Modify the grant adapter using the spud out of the old steering wheel? Or make an adapter out of the old wheel itself...

Re: Steering Shaft Adaptor for a Grant Wheel?
May drill out the Grant adaptor and force some splines into the thing.
May be able to find an 18 mm tapered reamer for the tapered part of the shaft. For sure a Yamaha shaft is a lot smaller than a Hyundai shaft. Thought about buying a steering box off a Yamaha. The steering box is the only thing that is worn on the cart. I've got a Club Car electric that has no slop in the steering and I'm assuming that the Hyundai should be the same. The Hyundai box has grease and is clean inside. The lower bushing on the pittman shaft seems worn...wouldn't have thought that would wear out. Tightening the box adjustment just causes notchy steering. Rather have the slop. The rest of the steering is good. Saw a G2 Yamaha steering box on Ebay for $100 bucks. Might do that and leave the adaptor alone for a bit. Finished up the wiring harness today. Installed the battery, turned on the key and everything works....freakin amazing. Must be 100 miles of wiring in the ZX harness. There's a lot less now than before! I kept all the motorcycle features...turn signals, high and low beam, horn, etc. At least if I decide to install lighting, the wiring is already in place. Stretched the harness so that the guages and key switch will mount in the front of the cart. The key switch may end up under the seat in the cart OEM location. That's a good reach to the dash. Unlike my CC, the Kaw will have to be cut off when sitting. Movin' on! JR |

I'll save you some hassle and cash. I have a G2 steerring for $40 and shipping from 17408. If you want it, it was just going to scrap anyway...

FWIW, the Grant adaptor number is 3672. Or maybe A 3672. That sound right to you? Be shipping to 28110, Monroe, NC. How do you want to be paid? Is "Hypermotive" a business? Thanks, JR |

The shaft is closer than what I've got!
That transaxle looks a lot like mine too? Is that out of the G2? Let me know the cost to ship. Thanks, JR |

The front half looks the same, but the differential is rotated 90 in the g2/g9 rears. Yours is more than likely heavier than what I got. Check your PM's for shipping quote...

The steering isn't holding up anything. The oil cooler...clutch pedal...they are. Not happy with the location of the oil cooler. Appreciate your taking the time to package and ship the steering! The "ship to" addy on Paypal is my shipping address. Thanks much! Later, JR |

Re: Steering Shaft Adaptor for a Grant Wheel?
Hyper, want to thank you for getting the sector all boxed up and shipped in a very timely manner! You get 120% feedback I reckon this is BGW "feedback?"
The shaft fits the adaptor. Plan to try to get the steering unit installed tomorrow. Makes things much cleaner and probably more safe. BTW, does the Yamaha G2 that you're removing parts from still have the rear swing arm? I'd love to have it just to play with. The urge to gooch that engine is too great...it's gonna get broke! Having it laying here will offer a lot of opportunities for the conversion. Might just have to fab up a reverse using the Suz V270 starter/genset. That's next year. Sitting here looking at race car paint schemes.... If you have the arm, let me know and what you want for it? Thanks very much! JR |
