Jeep Buggy VIDEO: Test Run Gixxer 600 By Fritster
FINALLY RUNNING!
ONLY regret so far, it's to NARROW! Very tight to fit 2 adults inside. It would really NOT have been that bad without the enclosed cab. I patterned the width off a very old golf cart, and it's way to narrow. It would have been nice if it were 8 inches wider for both handling purposes and room inside. Didn't realize this until it was time to install seats in it. :( Very POWERFUL though! AND, will be a real head turner when painted. The width thing is just one of those things that will bug me forever, after spending so much time money and effort on this. It started out as a refurb on an old goalf cart and turned into a BUGGY BUILD after I scrapped the old cart. Had I known I would build a complete buggy from the start, I would have measured a SIDE by SIDE and went for width and probably 4 way A-arms. Getting the bugs out: The rear suspension (swing arm engine cradle type) is so stiff, that the tires take all the bumps. It articulates (side roll) very easy, but the rear up and down is about zero when I jump on the rear bumper! I's like having no suspension at all! I have heavy duty NITRO filled Rhino shocks on the rear, adjusted all the way soft and its like having NO SUSPENSION at all!. I realize now that the rear shocks support ONLY the frame and body, because the engine weight is carried by the swing arm. I guess I will try WEAKER rear shocks? The cart seems a little top heavy too ... probably because of the width issue? I learned so much building this one that I could build a PERFECT one now! BUT, I will never ever... EVER build another ... LOL. BOTTOM LINE, at 8K spent, IT IS A ONE OF A KIND BADASS CART that everyone will want to OWN! :) I will post a new threat showing a lot of the build steps with photos soon.
