Default The "Tri-X-Side", Marketeer + 1986 250 TRX

I got this 1965 Marketeer 425 from a co-worker for free last month and decided it needed to be re-born as a "Tri-X-Side". I purchased a 1986 Honda TRX250 for $700 that's solid and runs/shifts well. Rear diff is great and all brakes/lights work. I was going to cut off the original rear diff from the cart and attach the quad frame to the cart swing arm keeping the stock cart suspension. The original swingarm is a beast and would have handled the load. I got talked out of that idea and we removed the stock diff/swingarm. With the help of a saws-all, we trimmed the quad frame which fit it in easier than I imagined keeping it as one integral package. There's a lot of steel bracing on this old cart to work with! This will be a roller by the end of the week I hope. I'll be installing 2 1/2" wheel spacers on the rear and using a trike front wheel and axle. Not sure which one yet, but leaning toward a 200X configuration. I might even try to rig up front brakes There'll be lots of fabrication in store as I work out shifters, brakes, throttle, gas tank and electrical. A couple of black tractor seats should keep us comfortable and the whole thing will be sprayed in olive drab with black rims. I'll keep updating as we move along.

This is gonna be a neat build, but that looked like a perfectly good Honda!! You can't find em like that around here anymore.

Ya I know it's a bit of a shame, but it's saving me a ton of cash to kick off my project. Mechanically it seems tight. The plastics were trashed and it did need some front end work. There's just no market in this neck of the woods for a 2WD utility machine. Way too much muskeg to get anywhere. I'll be putting the tank up for sale as it's pristine. The seats been recovered but I give it an 8 out 10, some small lumps.

it really, really burns the first time you put that cut-off wheel to the frame. It's like the point of no return on the project. My neighbor thought i was crazy. He really likes it now. He has a shot badboy buggy and a 400 honda just begging for some TLC.

Cool build for sure and your making progress.

My question to you is why not do some fabbing/changing on the front end of the 4 wheeler and install it under the cart?

4 wheels is much more stable and I think it could be done about as easily as doing all the work to make the stock front better and have brakes.

You're probably right about it being fairly easy to jam four wheels under it. I'm not going to send the quad carcass to the dump just yet so maybe a future thought. I'm a three wheeler guy so I thought this would generate some shock and awe on the links and at the campsite. If it's too sketchy to operate, I just may convert to four wheels.
