Default Painting process - any critiques or suggestions?

I'm getting prepared to paint my 2011 EZGO. I don't have access to an air gun, so I'll be using rattle cans. I think I have a handle on things, a big thanks to Master and the sticky post about plastic prep! Just to make sure I'm not about to do something dumb, how does this look:

-Scuff body; remove shine only
Burgundy/maroon scotchbrite or 240-400 grit dry sand

-Wipe down with wax and grease remover
On with one rag, off with a fresh one
-Bodywork (if needed)
Polyester based finishing putty
Sand with 240-320 grit dry
Wax and grease remover again
-Adhesion promoter (1 coat)

-Primer (2-3 coats)
Usually 15-20 mins between coats
24-36 hours after final coat
-Sand
240 if early coat, 400-600 grit if final coat
-Clean with tack cloth

-Color (2-3 coats)
Usually 15-20 mins between coats
24-36 hours after final coat
-Clean with tack cloth

-Clear (2-3 coats)
Usually 15-20 mins between coats
Wait 24-36 hours
-1500-2000 wet sand

-Buff with cutting compound

Codetoad, if your going through all this prep work you should really give it a few coats of some good paint. you will be happier in the long run JMHA. Harbor freight has a great 1st spray gun for 20 bucks. The purple gun. Checkout some of the Youtube videos titled harbor freight purple gun. it shoots great for 20 bucks. Its a Chinese knock off of a $400 gun.
Summit Racing has a good single stage paint for the cost. As long as you don't live in Cali they will ship it to you. Many colors to choose from. Lays down easy, even for the 1st timer. If you go that route then spend the few extra dollars and get the medium solids clear. In the long run you will be happier. Once again, in my honest opinion. good luck with whatever route you go.

Around Charlotte here there are guys who sell painted bodies for 250 bucks. Take them your old body and buy theirs. To me that's cheap if you don't want to have the cart out of service for a few days.

There is a finishmaster not far from my house, that is where I picked up everything accept the paint and additives. I priced the paint there for my cart and it would have cost 6 times more to paint it. Sure it is a better quality paint but I like the Summit (Eastwood) paint for the price. $100 for all the material to mix up 6 quarts. Somewhere between a rattle can and a professional paint job that you would do. That suits my needs and I am assuming his needs too. I built my last cart to go 4 wheeling and hunting. It will get scratched up bad the 1st hunting trip. If I would have paid 4 times the cost to paint it then that would bother me. I have looked at pictures of a few of the carts that you have painted and they are clearly second to none. Top Notch!. I don't have the resources or experience to paint the quality that you do and I was just giving him another option between the 2 extremes. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I work for finishmaster in savannah. Next time u need help pm me and I can help u out and tell u what would be the best steps. I take all the cart I paint through the woods and mud . So if I get a scratch on them I can wet sand and buff it back to a high gloss . So next time u go to paint one pm me and I'll tell u what to get and what can be inter mix . And thanks for the compliment

That sounds great. Thank you. I am getting ready to start another cart project soon but I just don't know what it is yet. I am thinking something that is slammed with air bags and goes real fast. Thanks, M.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll look into my options. Regardless of the paint type, it sounds like nothing is outstandingly wrong with the prep or order of operations.
