Body filler
I've got a bunch of holes to fill after I remove the snaps that the previous owner installed with the rain cover.
What is the correct product to use as a filler for this repair? |

Re: Body filler
Depends on what the body is made of. Fiberglass you can use bondo or filler putty or a resin mixture. Plastic its better to use a plastic repair stuff because its so flexible, its bondo for plastic more or less. Used to be able to get little tubes of it, its for plastic car bumper covers. For little tiny holes like a screw hole you could get away with a filler most likely and some fillers/putties are somewhat flexible. I'd recommend you get something catalyzed whatever you use. Normally you make the top of the damage wider so your filler can spread out and blend under the paint, you sand it, prime it, paint.

Re: Body filler
Good suggestions. Plastic can be a real pain to repair and the repair can fail if the wrong type of material is used. If plastic, I would try to identify the type of plastic before selecting a repair material. Some plastics are almost impossible to get anything to stick to it. SEM and 3M makes very good products for repairing the most common plastics.

Re: Body filler
On a plastic body G22 with some snap and rivet holes... I took a small counter bore in a drill and counter bored inside and outside of plastic body so both sides was tapered put some metal tape on inside of body... Slightly over filled hole from outside with a JB weld epoxy filler...... Block sanded outside smooth primed and painted has held for 4 years now with no problem....

Re: Body filler
I use what is call a 2 part epoxy . u have to have a mixing gun for it . or u can mix it on something and wipe it in the hole but put some tape on the back side of it and wipe in the hole and wait for it to dry and sand it and if need more apply more as need . some 2 part epoxy have different drying times on them I use a 15 min one by Norton 04617 and u can use this on just about anything . I have taken this and glued 2 cement blocks together . some good stuff.

Re: Body filler
You can use hard filler on plastic, but if you bend it the filler may pop right out because it can't bend.
Epoxy should work for small stuff. I clean it with naptha, but make sure you wipe it clean quickly and make sure it does not melt the plastic, some kinds will get soft so you don't leave it on there. |
