Question Air Compressor?

Hello all,

I have been weeding through a lot of threads regarding painting a cart. I am in the process of customizing mine and one of the things I would like to do is paint it. I do know it is not an easy task but up for the challenge. My question is to anyone, how important is the air compressor using one of those cheapo HVLP spray guns? What should I be looking for? I have a 5 gallon one now and not 100% sure of the HP off the top of my head. I recall somewhere reading that the HP is not all that important as the CFM. Is this true ?
Suggestions please.

Jason

Hi Jason,

I think each HVLP spray gun would have different specs that you should stay with in. If you haven't bought one yet maybe try to match to the compressor you have? Not a pro...just a suggestion.

I may be wrong but I think HVLP stands for High Volume Low Pressure , but it still requires a certain amount of cfm. I hope this helps.

For spraying you need constant CFM otherwise you can't paint consistently. It's not the HP of the compressor as much as it is capacity for consistent CFM especially with a HVLP paint gun.

And, I should say, I'm the farthest thing from a professional. There are other guys here that can give you much better information I'm sure.

As Alberta said, check the cfm of your compressor and buy a paint gun to match. If you don't have a water separator or dryer you will want to get one.
