How many cans of Plasti Dip?
I am looking to redo my mothers Yamaha G16 golf cart and the last time I painted it with traditional automotive paint it didn't hold up well. I've read good things about Plastic Dip and it seems extremely simply compared to single stage paint I used before. But before i start I am trying to find out how many cans I need, the stuff is like $23.00 a can here in Canada and I don't want to get too expensive where I could just respray it with the left over paint from last time. I talked to an online supplier who recommended 25 cans of aerosol and 1 to 2 gallons for a spray gun. that seems like a lot to me. The can says it covers 5 to 10 square feet, I thought I get away with like 6 cans tops. So has anyone painted with this stuff before, how much did it really take?

Keep in mind you need to do at least 5 or 6 coats with it. So that uses quite a bit more than just 2 coats. I have done wheels with it and seems to hold up pretty good

Re: How many cans of Plasti Dip?
8 cans wouldn't be bad, certainly better than 25. I've done a lot of body work to get the large digs out of the panels so I'm starting to think I'll use a single stage paint. I'm just not sure my spray guns are still good as it's been 5 or 6 year since I last used them. I'm still thinking about the Plasti Dip but it's less desirable now.
My last attempt at paint a cart didn't hold up so I have a large fear of that happening again. But I read the sticky about painting carts and I think I failed to use adhesive promoter the last time. I'll make sure to use it this time is I go that route. |

I used 5 black and 5 anthracite grey on mine. Think I'm going to change it up this winter. I learned a lot doing it the first time around that I will change this time.

Re: How many cans of Plasti Dip?
I have used it some. Not on the cart. I have found if you put the cans in a tub of water and let it sit out in the sun for a while. let it get warm. Then I take a pot if boiling water and pour on them . the hotter it is coming out of the can the better it will lay down. Looks more like paint. Just what I have found. Hope it helps

Re: How many cans of Plasti Dip?
I like it a lot. I was surprised how well it came out being rattle canned.
I was in a hurry to get it done for the season and had plans to redo it this winter. All I did was clean it and shoot it. The cowl I sanded, put on the adhesive promoter then primed. It is a lot more durable than the rest of the cart. I also would completely wrap all the edges. Some I did not (under the tail lights), it has started to peel there. I think this winter I'm going to go with white pearl and silver racing stripes |

Re: How many cans of Plasti Dip?
I really wanted to plasti dip mine. Buts just as cheap to get it sprayed professionally.
It's amazing the cost difference in plasti dip between Canada and the USA. So let say 8 cans... Home Depot in USA $5.98 / can x8 = $47.84 $19.97 / can x 8 = $159.76 Man are we ever getting ripped off up here. :( |
