I know hand sanding can be boring and tedious, [beer helps] but you will be surprised how quick it goes with water [and a drop of detergent]. Helps to remember it only takes an hour or 2 more to make a good job than the years you will have to look at flaws.

Crown,,, good man! Although I HOPE the water you are referring to is cubed,,, Crown is perfect the way it comes out of the bottle, the way the good Lord intended. Remember, as you rub your fingertips across the surface, if you can feel it, you will see it.

Do yourself a favor and prep the inside of the body too, and plan on painting it to match the outside - You'll wish You had if You don't, having a great paint job rocks but lifting the seat and seeing the old, cruddy original color doesn't. On the upside, other than following the same steps IE Adhesion Promoter, Primer, Paint, Clear, etc there isn't much bodywork except scuffing and cleaning under there, You don't need to fix the imperfections just match it to the outside and it won't look like a half-a**ed job when You're done.

I scuffed the inside before I did the outer. So it too will be painted black. BTW i found a friend of a friend who has a paint and body shop at his house. He will prime, sand and fix anything i missed, paint, and clearcoat for 100 bucks!:

If you are painting with automotive paint ,a couple good costs of urethane primer and wet sand with 400 should give great results.
