Default How much paint to order?

Looking to do my first "custom" paint job on a 2002 TXT.. Painted some stuff in the past, but it was many years ago.

Aside from primer and adhesion promoter, etc... About how much single stage paint will it take to cover just the front cowl and rear body? Quart? two quarts?

I'm kind of nervous since its a one and done satin paint. Any imperfections are there to stay... lol.

And, whats the consensus on body filler/repair for the holes where the step pads and stuff went and deeper gouges?

Perfect. The kit I'm looking at makes like a quart and a half when mixed.

Thanks man!

You will barely use half of a quart of primer and color. Maybe 3/4 quart for clear 3 coats. That's all I needed.

I don't know if You've decided on a paint yet, but we've had pretty decent luck with the TCP Global "Hot Rod Flatz" single-stage Urethane when it comes to Matte or Satin finishes. The stuff is pretty easy to spray and lays/dries right regardless of most spraying inconsistencies IE directionality, etc plus their complete quart kits are between $59 and $79 and one kit will easily do a cart.

You're definitely on the right track with imperfections, with the single-stage paints (especially the flattened varieties) there isn't a lot of latitude to easily fix boo-boo's, and obviously You won't be burying anything in clear, LOL. Generally I hit the whole body with 180 to scuff it, then go back over w 240 and wipe it down good before starting to address scratches and gouges. Be careful not to get too agressive though with the sanding or You'll create a whole new level of mess - it's slow but hand-work is definitely preferable to using power in this case. Any good Polyester filler will work on the small nicks, chips, etc just be patient and if You have to do anything over a VERY thin skim do it in several layers with plenty of dry-time in between. The rule of thumb is that once You think it's fixed, close your eyes and rub over the spot with your fingertip, if You can feel it there's a good chance You'll still see it under the paint.

Well. Sorry for the long wait.

A friend is a manager at my local paint shops. She took great care of me. Single stage, slightly matte (on purpose) charcoal, with a ton of metallic.

Maybe a touch over a quart did the body and cowl.

Very pleased with the result. Pics are from about 20 minutes after spraying the 4th and final coat.

It's what I was going for.

Admittedly it looks like crap under fluorescent shop lights. But it's usually seen only outside. The metallic jumps like crazy.

I dunno, first ever sprayout with an HVLP gun.. Metallic... No runs. I'm happy.

When I painted mine I used the Duplacolor premixed paints. The whole cart took about 2 quarts plus the clear coat. It came out very good for amateur paint job.The paint was easy to work with.
