Default Painting with Fusion

Hi i;m painting my first cart. Yamaha G22 gas. Its all prepped up and ready. I've weighed the options of getting all the stuff to use a gun/compressor or bomb can it, and went to a couple body shops for advice/estimates (300-500).
I'm not looking for a showroom job, just a good job that will last and look good.
I've decided to just go with Krylon Fusion. I'm looking for the $100 job.
I'm a good painter and patient and rock the prep.

My question is, after I apply the duplicolor adhesion promoter I got, should I apply a coat or 2 of primer (SEM Flexible Primer Surfacer or Rust-Oleum 209460 Plastic Primer) before the fusion hi-gloss coats?

Second question, should i do a fusion clear coat after the base coat? If yes then when? Some say a day, some say if not within a day wait a week.

thanks.

Turned out really good! The cart in my avatar is red fusion. It holds up well.

If you put primer down why bother with fusion? At that point any paint will work. Fusion is designed to go directly on plastic.

No. I simply lightly sanded the body and sprayed on the Fusion. No primer or anything. After it set for a few days, I waxed it really well with Meguiar's cleaner wax. I've tried using clear with Fusion and it clouds up and looks milky at times. And it might be prep thing I didn't do. Have no idea but not much luck with it. You can try it but test it on something first.

Here's a pic of it right after I painted it and before I installed nice wheels and tires, etc... on it. But this is two or three days after paint completion. The top was done with Fusion also. It held up pretty well but not as good as the body. I'm assuming because the top was not a smooth surface so only prep was to clean it.

The stripes I simply taped off with painters tape and painted over the red: same color you are using I think (Fusion also). I let the red dry for a day or so before painting the stripes. All paint was done outside during the summer.

If it ever dulls on you, and it probably won't, just wax it with Meguiar's cleaner wax. Mine never really dulled but it was kept inside when not driven. I had that cart for about 5 years. It was the fastest stock cart I've ever owned: G16.

I just bought a dozen cans of of Krylon Fusion for my Microd and it doesn't say anything about priming. It says clean and dry for preparation --- but what really gets me is the "drys to the touch in 10-15 minutes" -- then Cures in 7 days. This leads me to believe it reacts directly with the plastic itself.

Hence the name Fusion, I suspect. Good point Shepard.
