How bad is it? Prep for vinyl skin
Ok here goes, after reading the thread on painting by Master, boy do I have a mess. So I started the repairing of my new to me ‘05 G22 waiting on the new motor blah blah blah , I was like hey Ill do the body work. Well I started the process of the Bondo primed it fixed the flaws primed again , you get the picture, right?
So when I was satisfied with what I thought was a great job, I got the skin and started to install it, at first not bad, BUT, here’s the fun stuff when I pulled it back up to remove wrinkles or bubble or to stretch tighter the primer came with it here and there, just enough to make you So after completing cowl:, I started to inquire, found this site and here I am. So my. Question would be other than yes I ripping the cowl off and starting over, do I need to sand back down to the original color,(white) spray with promoter and then prime and then cuss more as I stretch the now newer wrap on. Thanks, and yes I am a newbie, appreciate any help |

Why are you priming before installing the vinyl?

Re: How bad is it? Prep for vinyl skin
Quality wrap vinyl should be 95+ percent opaque. If it is factory pigmented (colored) make sure it has gray adhesive, not clear. If it is custom printed it should be the same. Don't settle for less.
If it were me and I wanted a solid color I would pick 3M #1080. For custom printed or mass produced print like camo, etc. I would specify 3M 180CV3. Both have air release technology that makes it virtually impossible to trap air under it during installation. |

You need to install on a smooth clean semigloss surface as well as let the paint cure for a couple weeks before install the vinyl wrap. This happens all the time with my racecar guys bc they cant wait. Vinyl doesnt adhere to primers, bondo, or matte finshed paints
Ps i do wraps |
