hi all, so does anyone know how to do ghost flames or UV flames?

There's a couple differnt ways to do "ghost flames".
It's usually done with kandy paint that's transparent. Say you're going for a kandy apple red with ghost flames in it. You spray a basecoat, in this case it would probably be gold. Then you tape off the flame pattern you want and spray it with a slighlty deeper gold. Then unmask the design and spray your translucent kandy color over the whole thing. Keep coating till you have the desired color. Clear coat, etc.
Another way to get the ghost look is to tape out flames over the base color you want and spray a really, really light mist of pearl (dry pearl mixed into clearcoat). Then clearcoat the entire thing as normal.
Sounds easy, but definately takes practice and requires profesional materials since you need kandys or pearl, so not cheap.

For a cheap way to get a similar look with rattle cans, you can do it the same as the second way. Just barely dust the flame area with a really metalic silver or gold. Hold the can like two feet away and move over it really quick. If you put a bunch of clear over it, looks pretty good. Seriously just barely dust it, it will show up more & quicker than you might think.

Both Mikes are correct, I use the pearl int the clear myself but just personal preference.

After you paint the ghost flames, how do you prep it for, and how long before prepping for clear? Just wet sand after the flame job?

What kind of paint system are you using ? If it is base clear and you have put pearl in the clear and sprayed the flames that way then you can wet sand next day.

I did not use pearl. I used another shade of the Duplicolor brand. I believe it's called redneck techology. I fanned the flames on, waited an hour and a half and wet sanded.

Here are some pics of the progress so far. I still have to add another coat of clear, then buff.

Didn't see the pics but more clear, wet sand 2000 grit then buff. So are you using bomb can clear or spraying from a gun ?
