HOK Candy paints
I have painted a few cars back when I was just a pup. Basically base coat clear coat. I really cannot remember what went with who.....
I am thinking about painting my cart myself. I have had my Cobra and other classics painted by a 'real painter' for the last ..well let's just say a long time. If I were to take on painting this cart myself, is there enough information for me to use HOK Kandy paint on the project? Basically, is there a "HOW TO PAINT KANDY" help book I could read? Or is anyone willing to give me a step by step instructional? The cart is small, and I think would be a good place to shoot Kandy paint for the first time. |

Re: HOK Candy paints
Hmm, it sure sounds different from when I last painted.
Maybe I need to take it and have it done. I really wanted to paint this myself. :( |

Re: HOK Candy paints
what is so hard about it.
You buy the paint and the solvents mix them in the ratio they explained. start about 8 in the morning and end at 5 in the afternoon and bam it is painted. just make sure to keep it tacky. when you get done with your base color and or effects and then hit it with two coats of clear. I paint using metal sign paint and xyol. And it comes out pretty slick. Painting is like riding a bike. hahaha. |

So you wanna paint some kandy do ya, I am with you it looks awsome, that is what I painted my cart whith. .Really the only difference between painting kandy and regular paint is the actual kandy coat, and for this coat it is very imparative that you have a good clean spraying gun. The reason I say this is because every coat of kandy you apply makes the color of the product darker, so if you're gun is striping or something it will be very evident in the coats of kandy, especially if you continue to spray in the same pattern. And really try to paint all you're parts at the same time as this will take any variability out of the conditions etc. All kandys use a mettalic base, silver, gold, pewter, etc and this will change the color of the end product, I like silver because this usually makes the brightest colors but plan accordingly, the color chart for house of Kolors will show you all of the kandy's over different base coats.Spraying is pretty easy, 3 coats base , 3 coats kandy, 3 coats clear. Apply you're kandy just like applying clear because that is pretty much what it is "tinted clear". Good luck I think you can handle it. |

Re: HOK Candy paints
I appreciate that.
I am certain I can do it. It has been a reaaly long time since I shot a car, but I am sure it will come back to me. I have a brand new gun for the job. Yea, I know, That doesn't mean its clean. |
