virgin stock 89 club car looking for some colour...
First cart just starting to customize it (dash done so far, wheels & rims to follow)..please help me transform my boring beige cart to a smoking "burnt orange" beauty...my day job is behind a desk(ie; my skills are limited)...is it posible for me to give the 89 club car color?? how hard is it for a desk jockey to paint a fiberglass cart??? any help much appreciated..

lots of members have gotten very satisfactory results with a spray can and some clear coat on top...... But that too will take some talent. If you have none, consider buying a new painted body. Install it with a few goodies and wha la, it's a whole new look

I agree with Scotty on this one, if you're skills are limited but you're budget isn't then by all means go with the pre painted body. If you really want to do it yourself then there is quite a bit of prep work to be done depending on the shape of the body and really what type of finished product you are after. A paint job will only be as good as what you are willing to put into it.Good luck and let us know if you really want to do it yourself and we can can try to walk you through it.

Scotty: is that year fiberglass or plastic ?

Pride in doing something on your own is something I always strive for.
Try the rattle can paint job yourself, you can fix just about any paint with wet-sanding.
If your not satisfied with the results, take it to a body shop and get it re-shot for a few hundred bucks (loonies).

The answer to your question is both fiberglass and plastic.
When Club Car was first introduced in 1982, the DS front was constructed of plastic and rear body panels were constructed of fiberglass.
In 1993, the Club Car body redesign used ArmorFlex for both the front and rear body panels. ArmorFlex was thicker and stiffer than the plastic materials used by EZGO. The result was a smoother appearance but it also made the panels break, rather than bend, when hit in certain ways.
When CC brought out the Precedent golf car in late 2003, Club Car used DuPont's Surlyn material for the Precedent body panels which has its color molded in. As a side note, Surlyn is also used as a cover for some golf balls so it will take some serious abuse before breaking.

DougMCP

Just looked at your cart and I really like the wheels. Are they 8 or 10 inch and what kind are they. Where did you get them?

Thanks

Fred Mc.

Welcome to BGW!
Thanks for the compliment.
They are nothing really special, just a 10" offset ITP wheel with 205/50-10 tires.

Why not go over here and introduce yourself: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/introductions/

X2.. Mine might not look like it rolled off the showroom floor and the flames I put on there don't look like they are actually fire like some of the beautiful paint jobs these guys have, but I did it myself. Give it a try.
