So to try to speed you up a little, skip the sanding between clear coats it is not needed, put on a good coat of clear and let sit for about 10-15 mins then bang on another, 4 total should be good any more than that and it will yellow after time. Any dust or debris you get in it will all come out with the wet sanding at the end of the job. I think you have gotten allot of good help here so here is another, when painting the back use adhesion promoter then white sandable primer, from what I can see from you're pics it is a mettalic red. If you're base color is different to start with "from front end to back end" then I gaurantee you it will be a different shade red.

Good advice master66. I'm heading to the parts house now to see if I can find some white primer.

Okay, Master66. I went and got some white sandable primer and took care of that. That bit of advice certainly made sense, so I had absolutely no problem going with it. I got it primed and 4 or 5 coats of base. I sprayed from different angles with each coat. I did not sand between coats (per advice I got from several of you), so I'm just hoping that the magic wet sanding blends all of the coats together. I'm not as concerned with the back after seeing what the wet sanding did to the front. I also ran the tack rag on the front and put a second coat of clear. I'll have to pat myself on the back for how it looks so far, being my first real paint job, especially with the ghost flames. I never thought during the process on the front that I would be seeing so much gloss, but it's there. Tomorrow, I'll wet sand the back section, tack it, lay out the flames, tape it off, paint, wet sand again, and hopefully, I'll have enough patience to give it about 1 1/2 hours before applying the first coat of clear.

Patience Spoiled patience, I have ruined plenty of paint jobs by rushing them, and when you are painting 50,000 dollar street rods you learn pretty quick to slow down . Seriously though it looks great for what you worked with.

Nice work! I just recently did the same thing on mine, only I used single stage, thus no clear coat. I never painted anything before, and with all the help from here and youtube, I was really happy with the results. ![]()

I want to know how you guys are masking for the flames? Are you putting tape on and razor cutting it in place? Google answered my question ...... this was fun to watch this pro!http://videos.streetfire.net/video/H...8TV_194222.htm
