| Yes, Master Po... ![]() My wife is just a little more impatient than I am, so she was out there cheering me on. It did make me sick when that paint pealed off. I'm going to let it sit for a couple of days, then tape off the area to be repaired and start over, hoping I can get the colors close enough to get me by. SHOOT A MONKEY!!!! |

| Spoiled So one of two things happened here, either you didn't wait long enough to allow base to dry or it wasn't prepped correctly with the adhesion promoter .The steps are: scuff body, degrease, adhesion promoter, primer, sand, degrease, tack cloth, paint color, tack cloth, clear, wet sand, buff . Take the area that came off and feather the edges of it, then apply some more primer and re-spray the color coat, then "wait for it" LET IT DRY OVERNIGHT! You will hopefully be just fine when you mask the flames again. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. |

It must have been the "didn't wait long enough to allow base to dry". I gave it about 1.5 hours to dry before applying the pin stripe tape. It worked on the front and the driver side. I just don't understand why it did that on the last side I pulled up. I sanded the whole thing first off. Then tacked with the cloth, applied Bull Dog Adhesion Promoter, 3 coats of primer (I had already applied two coats of the dark primer when you suggested the light primer so I added a third coat of the white sandable) I tacked before every coat. With exception of the Bull Dog, everything was one name brand, Duplicolor, so I didn't even mix brands.Man, that made me sick! I'll isolate the two areas and try to get them to match the rest.

If you would be so kind, explain what you mean by "feather the edges". One good thing is that I did not wet sand after the flames yet, so that should make it easier to color match. Now about the feathering of the edges... Thanks again. You guys are great! Hopefully, others will learn a lot from the thread about the three P's of Paint...... "Prepping, Painting and Patience". Yep, I just made that up. ![]()

| feathering edges is where you wet sand the hard edges where the paint came off, that way the primer will make a smooth transition. Hard edges and paint do not mix to well, typically even if you prime it then sand odds are you will still see the hard edge where the paint came off when done. |

| I think I get it! Thanks, yet again. But then, I thought I got it when the guy told me to take a left at the pond and I took a right. ![]() ![]() |

| You forgot some additional "P's" Pay a Professional? Sorry - couldn't resist. Painting from a rattle can is very hard. I agree the you taped WAY too soon, plus it also says that the prep work isn't allowing good adhesion. I would wait 24 hours between tape / coats / color changes. You can also use a mid coat clear between graphic coats |

| Some more "p" words that could be added....... That is a great Point, Mike. If I Paid a Pro, I would Probably Pout at every Peck and Prick I Proceded to get that Penetrated the Paintjob. I did tell myself that if I messed it up to the point that I was ashamed of it, I would simply take it and get it professionally done. I always try something first for myself. I have a motto: "If I can't do it, it can't be done". I really have a great deal of confidence in myself, and I might add, there's been very little that I've done that I didn't mind showing off. I just haven't done and body work, so this might be a first "mess". Too bad you aren't closer to me or, if I ended up needing it, I could get a price from you for the job. I like your work. |
