Painting Bumpers on Club Car
On my project cart (1994 Club Car) I am looking at the bumpers. They are not in too bad of shape, but since this was a work cart at the local course, they have red paint spilled on them.
Can you paint the black plastic bumpers on these carts? What prep? What paint? BTW, I did a search and could not find anything about painting bumpers. |

Re: Painting Bumpers on Club Car
Get some Goo Gone Xtreme Remover, paint department Wally World,to remove old paint, be carefull with it, give bumper and all your back plastic and rubber, a good scrubbing, Awesome from teh Dollar store is great, dry, then paint with the satin black Fusion paint. Don't spray Fusion to heavy, several light coats work best. Are you will be waiting a week for it to dry. You can also use Fusion on the seats but use satin not gloss. I have used Fusion on the floor mats also, looks great.

Thanks DumBlonde, for the suggestion. I bought some fusion paint, but I think I bought the gloss black. Our local Wally World did not have the satin paint.
Maybe I will have "shiny" bumpers. |

Re: Painting Bumpers on Club Car
If you are paint challenged and decide to go with the paint stripper be very very very carefull on the prep afterwards for paint, if there is any residue left at all it will eat the new paint. Just my opinion of course "and typically not even my wife listens to me", but some 300-400 grit sandpaper should do ya just fine. And on buying the gloss paint instead of satin just take the last two coats and fog them on lightly and this will take away the gloss or you can buy a can of matte finish clear and that will also dull it up a bit.

Re: Painting Bumpers on Club Car
I have used some paint from Advance Auto, but others sell it. Its called bumper black paint. I still have a piece of a can in my shop. I know you can't see it, but the bumper on my TXT is painted with it. It works well on many other projects as well. It leaves a finish like satin black, sprayed with Armorall. Very good adheasion.

Re: Painting Bumpers on Club Car
Hey Cray don't forget, if you sand through the existing color you will need to put some adhesion promoter on the bare plastic for the paint to last. The best bet is to not sand through the existing paint and you will be fine.
Hey NCfenceguy are you saying the paint you sprayed looks like Armorall or something? I was just curious because you never want Armorall anywhere near a painting process because of the silicone in it, let me know I am curious. |
