Default Painting galvanized pipe

Just wondering if anybody has any secrets on painting galvanized pipe or metal. I built a brush guard for my buggy and used pipe I had laying around. Would a self etching primer work? Looking for suggestions. Thanks

vinegar always works great but a self etching primer will finish it off for topcoat.

In case anyone is still interested....
I just found this thread and have an answer.
Zinzer Bin primer works fabulously on any surface, even chrome and glass. It's got a resin base and I used it to change my chrome bumpers to black on an old '80 LUV truck. Worked great and didn't chip off.

Thanks for the info. I used the vinegar trick and then shot it with bedliner. I will keep this in mind as this won't be the last time I do this. Where can you get some of this primer?

The primer can be found at HD and Lowes, and probably at any DIY store
