How to paint bolts and nuts that are seen
First post in this section. I have the body of my cart being painted at a body and paint shop. I am not as daring as some of you guys. Your jobs look great.
My question: I have a CC 1995 and it has aluminum supports for the top and various nuts, washers and bolts that hold it together. The shop is preparing the supports and painting black but I did not want to ask them to do the bolts. I think my choices are to prime and paint before putting back together and then touch up what the wrench will take off. The other choice could be after putting everything back together then try to use very small brush and hand paint. What do you guys think? Thanks Phil |

Re: How to paint bolts and nuts that are seen
I have had pretty good luck just painting the heads on bolts by punching a hole in cardboard and pushing the bolt thread through it, leave it up 3/4", then paint the heads. The trick is to leave them alone for 2or3 days so the paint dries hard, then it won't chip off so easy. The nuts, I would get new nylon lock nuts (cheap) and I would get new washers also. With lock nuts, parts arent going to come loose. My whole car is put together with lock nuts.
Good luck, Mike |

mike mac has the right idea.....or you can go out and get new stainless steel bolts and you wont have to worry about paint or rust ever

Re: How to paint bolts and nuts that are seen
Thanks guys. Those were all good ideas. I went with the cardboard box with holes punched into it for bolts. Thin pieces of shim stock for other misc. items. Washers i just laid flat. I only need 1 side plus edge. The nuts the same way. I just had to match the other black trim on cart. A little tedious because I steel wooled then aluminum primer and then finish color coat.
Got a phone call from body shop and painting is done so I will pick up on Monday. Hope to have it back together by next weekend. Phil |

Phil, if you live in Phx., you didn't have to go that far. Nothing rusts here. Just clean and paint. Good job anyway!
We wana see pictures when it's finished! Mike |
